I almost bought a new wardrobe on eBay. That's right. I contemplated dropping over $300 on a 65-piece lot of women's clothing, all size 6, and all from my favorite mall stores: J.Crew, Gap, Banana Republic and The Limited. Most of the items were NWT (eBay speak for new with tags) and some were NWOT (new without tags). But what attracted me most to this sale was the way the seller put her items together. For a moment I felt like I was shopping in a tiny boutique featuring some of my tried and true brands. The seller had coordinated the outfits complete with accessories. The lot included six pairs of pants, two pairs of capris, two skirts, two dresses, 25 shirts, five purses, two belts, 10 necklaces and 10 pairs of earrings. Is Wendy a closet shopaholic or a woman with good taste who enjoys helping other women put together great outfits? I dropped her a note via eBay but had to file this post before getting a response. In the meantime, I continue trolling through eBay using the search terms "J.Crew" or "Lot Size 6" and to my delight have found shoes, bags, shirts, skirts and more. I happened upon some really fashionable outfits at unbelievable "buy it now" prices. Call me a skeptic, but are these buys too good to be true? Tell me readers, have you bought clothes on eBay? How would you describe the experience?
Posted by: Christina| February 20, 2009 at 08:58 AM I've purchased lots like this before. And it's pretty hit or miss. There have been some great items mixed in with brand name, but out of style, products. The clothing that didn't work for me, I donated or gave away. It's important to look at the styles (i.e., pants that are older cuts and may not fit the way you think). Would I do it again? I might provided I was more diligent in really reading the text and asking the seller more questions. I purchased most of my maternity clothes on eBay. Buying in lots can be hit-or-miss, with photos of the really cute items and some 'filler' thrown in. But it's still a great way to buy better name brands without the time and effort involved in going to the thrift store or giant discount places. With the hit my paycheck has taken from the economy I will definitely be looking at eBay to add to my summer wardrobe. Did the seller ever respond to your note?? |

I often buy clothing on ebay. If the seller has a good rating, and you know how he sizing of the brand in question fits, it's usually not a problem. I don't buy huge lots, though. Buying in pieces, I know I can always resell something if it doesn't work.
