Have You Seen the TwitterMoms Holiday Catalog?
Posted on Nov 14, 2008 7:41:57 AM  |  By Erin—Manic Mommies

Tmhc_banner_2 The world's first fully tweetable holiday catalog was born this week and I've got to believe its creator, Megan Calhoun—a busy mom of two young children in Ross, California—felt like she was giving birth all over again. This time, she labored not for another adorable child (she's got two of those already: Oscar, 3 and  Stella, 17  months) but to publish the first downloadable catalog to fully integrate Twitter in the distribution channel.

Click on the images in the catalog to visit the product website. When you see something you like just click on the catalog text and immediately you are brought to your Twitter page where your status field is populated with a snurl link to the item you enjoyed. In a matter of seconds you can promote the item to all of your followers.

You might be thinking: Why would I want to do that? Can't these businesses promote themselves? That's what's truly unique about this holiday catalog. Megan believes every one of the 500 incredible products, services and resources featured in the catalog was created by a mom member of the online social networking site TwitterMoms. (Do you follow?)

TwitterMoms is yet another online social network for moms. More specifically, moms who Twitter. "It was clear the site was catching on with influential blogger moms and mompreneurs as it grew," founder Megan says. "It was obvious that most of the members maintain very active blogs. I wanted to do something that would showcase how amazing these women really are and, at the same time, demonstrate how powerful they are when they get behind an idea."

Squeakymelon2_2 So she rounded up a few sponsors—Sitter City, Elf on the Shelf, and Global Wonders—and she got to work. Using no fewer than four different programs and tools including Microsoft Excel, Google Spreadsheets, an outdated version of Apple iPhoto with a catalog maker and Adobe Acrobat, and after more than 1,000 copy and past actions, somehow she got this catalog together (her husband was called in many early mornings to help).

I found some really interesting items in the catalog. And I love the idea of supporting another mom who is trying to raise children and run a small business at the same time. It's hard to call out just one great item, but this one is a clear personal favorite: Soapylove. Can you think of anything more perfect for little hands than soap on a popsicle stick?

You can download the 2MB TwitterMoms catalog here. Happy Shopping!

It's right on the main home page. Click on the holiday catalog graphic (it looks exactly like the one in my post).

My business is in the catalog but I didn't realize there were 500 products/services! Good job to all of the Twitter Moms and Megan!

Erin,
Thanks so much for the holiday catalog plug. Megan is a mommy genius for thinking of it. I'm going to do a lot of holiday shopping in the catalog to support other working moms. I'm a Twittermom and was thrilled to be included in the catalog to promote my new novel DATING DA VINCI.
Also a huge fan of Real Simple! Keep up the good work.

A few of my businesses are listed in the catalog and I'm grateful for that not to mention I've now found other awesome businesses and have done biz with them in the last few days because of their listings there too!
Thanx

I'm on Twittermoms, & I love it! I think Megan did a fantastic job on the Holiday Catalog. It even inspired my Cloud9 Holiday Gift guide on my blog: http://snurl.com/6rmzw
