The Well-Dressed Home

I have a question for you... Do you believe that personal style can extend beyond how you dress and into your home, in the way that you decorate and live? Have you ever given that idea much thought? If this intrigues you, pick up a copy of the beautiful new decorating book, The Well-Dressed Home: Fashionable Design Inspired by Your Personal Style by Annette Tatum. It's such an inspiration, I think you'll love it!

Welldressed

I received a copy this morning from the publisher and read half of it before even getting out of bed -- so it's fresh on my mind for a quick review. The author lives in sunny Santa Monica, CA where she also runs her successful interior design company and store, and she is lucky to work with some pretty amazing clients including celebs like Minnie Driver and Marcia Cross -- she just designed a nursery for each of them. If that were not impressive enough, she is also the talent behind House, Inc where she carries her own line of fabrics, bedding and furniture.

Annette's motto is that, "inspiration is everywhere", and in this book she trains you to examine your own closet for clues that will lead you to finding your ultimate decorating style. She breaks down the book into helpful bites so that it's not overwhelming and sections are arranged by style where defines them and then goes into detail showing examples including referencing designers who fall into the category under discussion (like Bohemian or Modern for instance), the colors that are often used, and then showing mood boards, clothing, runway photos, and finally -- how that is all translated into a room.

If you love fashion, and decorating, but never thought that the two related -- well this book will change your mind. And if you're like me, and you look to fashion already for inspiration, then The Well-Dressed Home will likely provide a huge dose of inspiration and further insights into how the whole runway-to-room really works.

Do you know what your personal style is, and can you define it? I'm eclectic resort bohemian vintage modern. Ha ha! So I just go with eclectic or bohemian modern since people tend to visualize better what I'm trying to say when I use less words. :)

Ha! I'm eclectic modern, too! I absolutely think our personal style extends to our home. I remember an article in Domino a few years ago about determining your two word 'style statement' - that really stuck with me. I've got to go pick up this book!

I have been intrigued by this book. Interior design seems to follow fashion design by a year or two, I can't wait to see it.

I definitely see the intersection between how I dress and how I adorn my home. I'd have to say that my base layers are a classic chic and then I top that with a signature accessory. My home is the same way.
