Here's where you step in: my mom and I are throwing a springtime bridal shower for a dear friend. There will be 40 people in attendance. What do you think of this menu? Have you hosted a bridal shower? What was on the menu?
Posted by: Jessimuhka| Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 02:14 PM It sounds good to me! But please allow me to share a story: I have a friend who I wouldn't necessarily consider to be a "picky" eater, and she went to a baby shower a couple weeks ago. She was completely horrified by the menu the hostess had hired a caterer to prepare. It was essentially a Thai/Asian menu, complete with what she described to me as "peanut butter spaghetti" and "wanna-be eggrolls." Since we're Southern, she came in expecting pimento cheese and chicken salad finger sandwiches and the like. Needless to say, she was not pleased, especially because she's 5 months pregnant with a delicate stomach. Her main complaint? That the hostess tried too hard and should have served food she knew her guests would like, and not something that most of her guests would consider "trendy". Sounds delicious! The last shower I hosted was a baby shower and we did a tea: little finger sandwiches served on tiny trays, tossed green salad with fruit and nuts and iced tea, hot tea an lemonade. It was a nice afternoon. Although most ladies I know like to complain about showers (too long, too many presents) I have always enjoyed attending and hosting them! I love throwing spring parties - there are so many bright foods to serve. A couple of thoughts on the menu: 1. If you go with a soup as the appetizer, you might serve it in small shot glasses so guests don't have to manage a bowl and spoon. I'm guessing you want everyone to mingle while they snack, which can be difficult with both hands occupied with the soup. 2. I had a bruschetta bar at a party last fall it went over like gangbusters. 3. For some reason that I can't put my finger on, the seafood salad seems out of place on the menu. The comment on finger sandwiches made me think they might be a great addition, or move the fruit salad up from the dessert menu. 4. Speaking of dessert, have you considered mini cupcakes, maybe a lemon cupcake with a glaze, instead of cake. Little sweets are very popular right now and women like them I think because they let us have our cake without feeling like we ate it too. The presentation would probably be beautiful with the cookies. Please do let us know what menu you ended up with. My sister and I hosted a kitchen shower for her best friend. We picked 3 easy to make dishes and had the guests prepare the dishes instead of doing lame shower games. Then as shower favors, we bought plain white aprons and paper chef toques to use while cooking and then the guests took them home. Before the quests came, I hand painted each apron with a small design, the date and the couples name. The drink looks so....good. Your menu looks wonderful. Yes, I hosted a bridal shower and one of the things we had was chicken salad on croissants. Wow! thank you for sharing you this looks so yummy,i like this. winnie |

I always end up with way too much to drink at parties. I buy wine/beer/etc. so that there's enough off the bat, and then my friends bring stuff too. Which is awesome, but since I don't want to *expect* them to bring stuff, I wind up with entirely too much.
