Posted by: Dana Beery| March 26, 2008 at 02:49 AM Maui has definately been my family's favorite destination but there is something to say about our yearly visit to Hilton Head. It's so quiet, peaceful, beautiful and really shows off the southern hospitality of the area. Lake Michigan! The sun, the sand...it's heavenly. Miles upon miles of sugar sand, beautiful scenery. Nothing like it. We now spend a week each summer with our girls 6 & 10 at the NUMEROUS public/private beaches that line the shoreline. The areas that surround this area are quaint, eccentric and full of good clean family fun! Waunita Hot Springs Ranch - Gunnison, CO. My son and I have stayed at this guest ranch for the past 15 years. The family that owns/operates it is just like our own family now. The activities include horseback riding, white water rafting, hayrides, square dancing, 4 wheel drive trips, music show and great food and new friends and more. My son no longer goes, but that hasn't stopped me. I love Brookings Oregon I love to go to Scottsdale, Arizona to destress and enjoy five things, all that begin with S for Scottsdale! Lake Tahoe! and also Hall's Island in the Sacramento Delta region of California. My husband and his family have always gone to the Warren Dunes in Michigan to camp every year. So, we have kept up this tradition with them. We always go over the 4th of July and then maybe again another time during the summer months. It's the place where my husband proposed, so it is extra special! I love the Outer Banks of North Carolina. When I first started the drive in I thought I was going to hate being in the place for the entire week. There is NOTHING around. No quickie marts on every corner, no McDonalds, no Walmart - the closest was an hour away. How would I survive??? The first night I was a wreck. Yes the house was beautiful. Yes the smell was amazing. Where was the noise? Where were the fire trucks which blare their sirens loudly to wake me up every morning (since we live a mile from the Fire Station)? I finally fell asleep and had the best, most restful vacation from that point on. Dinner was made from the seafood of local vendors. Lunch was eaten on the beach watching the waves. Breakfast was made while I looked out the window and watched the dogs running around the yard and playing tag at the edge of the water. My laptop stayed closed. The TV was off much more than it was on. I felt a peace that I cannot possibly find anywhere else within 500 miles of my busy neighborhood in Baltimore. We will go there every year from now on. Bluefin Bay in Tofte, MN. We go in the middle of January. It is frigid, but we ski, sauna, hot tub, visit with friends, and most of all, relax. |

My husband and two children retreat every year with my parents to Westport, WA on the west coast. We love Westport because it's a small fishing town, with friendly people, great food, and we usually have the beach all to ourselves. My mom and I also take a quick day trip together down the west coast from Wesport to Long Beach, WA. There we visit a fantastic quilt shop, have lunch, and just enjoy a day as mother and daughter.
