In her December 2007 Motivator column, life coach Gail Blanke writes: Do I really want to be uptight and miserable, feel inadequate, and make everyone around me wish the holidays were over? Do any of us? After all, this truly is the season to be jolly. It’s a season to be defined not by perfectionism, but by delight. So this year I’ve come up with a couple of tools to get me through the holidays without falling into those traps: The Good-Stuff List This year, I’ve compiled a list of all the good stuff I’ve done during the past year. I don’t mean the time I cured world hunger; I mean the ordinary but nice or meaningful things I did that made me or somebody else happy. The Delightful-Moments List Second, I’ve made a list of the unexpected moments from the past year that gave me joy — things that were nothing more or less than fun, poignant, or just plain worth remembering. What's on your "good-stuff" and "delightful-moments" lists? Share your lists by posting a comment, below.
Posted by: Mary Marshall Fowler| February 21, 2008 at 02:24 PM Good stuff - donating to my favorite charities, doing kind things for strangers, adopting a family for the holidays, spending time with my family, and making jewelry and bookmarks for those I love. Since I'm retired, I have the luxury of meeting friends for coffee every morning. We enjoy sharing each others "good stuff" and commiserate about the things that really are getting us down. I always remember a quote that says: "Joys shared are multiplied and sorrows shared are divided". The "best stuff" is having really dear girlfriends. They're the absolute best!! I had a BAD day at work. I forgot an appointment to help a co-worker, and she was (rightfully so) angry and upset with me. A friend talked me into leaving work early with her and going to a state park near where we live and bird watch. A researcher happened to be there, and let us HOLD, then release, the painted buntings she was studying. I don't know which was bigger....getting to hold then release the beautiful bird, or realizing I had a friend who understood me and helped me take care of myself, nurse my wounds and forgive myself. |

One of the places where we go for burgers has coffee dispensers which are like large jugs. Often when I want coffee I find the the dispenser is empty. I moved it over where the very busy employees can reach it. They refill it within a reasonable time & put it back on the counter. At the same and other places, if I see that the toilet paper or paper towels are low or out in the public restroom, I let an employee know. If they're very busy, they'll hand the item to me & I'll put it in the restroom. It's really annoying to find those items missing when you really need them. (I usually carry some tissues, just in case.)
