Which of Your Dreams Has Puzzled You?

You wake up in a panic -- teeth clenched, heart pounding, mind racing -- but then are relieved, even euphoric, when you realise it was only a dream. Or was it? Perhaps it was some sort of signal or clue to your inner life.

Have you had any weird or puzzling dreams? Share them and tell us what you think they might mean by posting a comment, below.

The other night, I had a dream that I was at the house of my childhood visiting my parents. I went down to the basement where I discovered a dog that kept scratching behind its ears and biting its sides. It was obviously flea-ridden, and it had an open sore on its back at the base of its tail. I was so mad at my parents for letting this happen; I couldn't understand why they ignored this poor dog while the dog that they own in real life was living comfortably upstairs. I watched the dog walk around and then I picked it up. It was light as a feather, so I went upstairs to get it some dog food. I brought a big bowl of the food down to the basement, and the dog started eating it immediately. I kept thinking that I should call the police or the humane society to tell them about the dog. Then I started to wake up and realized it was just a dream.

I think the dream was a metaphor for dealing with clients in my job. I'm an editor, and I've been stressed out about making sure I pay attention to all of my clients' needs and schedules, and I think this dream was a manifestation of that worry. I think it was a way to make me think about what I might be overlooking. Sure enough, I went to work that day and made a very long To Do list!

I know most people will not believe me when I say this BUT I have dreams that eventually end up coming true. At first I thought it was just coincidental but then it started happening more than once. I make sure to tell my "weird" dreams to my husband or sister so then they can verify that I am not lying and when the dream eventually does come true they can't believe it either. For example, I dreamt that I was getting pulled over by a police officer on a certain road - that same day right after I woke up I was late and in a hurry and got pulled over on that exact same road I saw in my dreams. Also, I dreamt the exact way my Grandfather would pass away and that came true. Or there was the time that I dreamt something bad was going to happen to my father on a specific weekend and once that weekend came about - my mom decided to file for divorce on the exact weekend I saw in my dreams. There are many other examples of dreams that have come true. I know I sound like I'm crazy but I am telling the God honest truth!

For the past few years, I've dreamt that I am swallowing sand and suffocating.

Recently, it's turned to food.

I wake up gagging trying to physically pull the object out of my mouth.

The other day, it was an hard-boiled egg I was swallowing and I awoke to me pushing against my throat thinking to myself while waking I better crush the egg so I don't swallow it whole.

I awoke thinking, I almost crushed my throat.

Either I'm tired of dieting or stress of life is getting to me.

Other then those dreams, I work for the mafia

had the weirdest dream last week. I dreamt that I was on the street, and I noticed a hole in the wall near a drain. In that hole was a stack of large coins and some other objects. Upon drawing closer I realized the coins were silver dollars. One of the coins though was a very thick two dollar coin that simply said "GOD" in large letters on one side, with a relief surrounding it of classical figures. I noticed someone was watching me look and study these things. I wondered if I was a grave robber or something.

I also noticed many crucifix necklaces in the pile. One was blue like mine, and one very flat and of a blue sparkly material. Then there were gold ones like mine. They were small but the bodies of them were long, with not a large top at all. More like a lower case t shape.

A very strange dream.

I had a very long, detailed dream. The scariest part was this: I was at cheerleading camp on a college campus and couldn't find anyone on my team. Only one cheerleader was in sight. She had longer than shoulder length hair and was holding a thick lanyard for her room key. Or so I thought. She began to jog up a flight of stairs, similar to those of a fire escape. I followed her, about 20 feet behind her. We were running the same pace, so I couldn't catch up. The flight of stairs was so long. She ran to another flight of stairs, and I followed. She never looked back; I never saw her face. She was about half way up the stairs when I yelled out "I'm not trying to stalk you or scare you. I just want to find..." I was about to say "my dorm" when she lept over the side of the railing and HUNG herself! I was so shocked. I looked down at her and put my head in my hands. I was all alone staring at her body, dangling there. I never saw her face, but the lanyard I saw was a rope, attached to the noose. I wondered if chasing her drove her to kill herself, but then I realized she already had the noose on. I think this dream symbolizes the gap I put between myself and others, or possibly that I should stay my own person and not follow others. I was so completely shocked, I would never had thought of this in a million years, if not for it occurring in my dream. For a long time, I couldn't follow people down or up stairs. The image of her leaping over that rail so gracefully still haunts me.

I dreamed that a serial killer was trying to kill me and my friends at a snowy, isolated mountain cabin (Yes, just like out of a horror movie). After several friends' deaths and running, I eventually had to confront him. As I confronted him, I not only killed him, but killed a friend as well.
Devestated, I woke up thinking initially that I had gone crazy and and the dream haunted me all day. When I got to my journaling, I realized that the serial killer was like a demon of the past that I had recently been working through. The friends I lost were from my running away and my loss of youthful innocence once I confronted my past.
It was the worst dream I ever had, but it also gave me more peace than any other dream to date.

Okay, in the dream, I was standing in the desert, not far from where I live. I was facing my town, although since in is in a valley, it is unable to be seen. I can see the mountains in the distance. The sky is the normal blue with a few light clouds, more of them gathering in various shades of soft blues, pinks, and purples nearer the mountains. It was then this.. hoard, army, mass, large group.. whatever you want to call it.. of sheep were coming towards me. On pogo sticks. Bouncing towards me. The pogo sticks were various shades of neon blue, purple, green, and orange. Suddenly.. everything in the dream was black and white except for the sheep and their pogos. They came closer and closer. Then, the large sheep in front was about six feet in front of me. He climbed off his pogo, and extended a hoof-like appendage. Laying sideways on his "hand" was a long-stemmed rose. He offered it to me. I was unable to tell what colour it was, because, it too, was in black and white. I don't remember whether or not I accepted the rose, because I was rudely awakened by my little dachshund falling off of the bed and crashing to the floor

I had a dream that a snake got into my house. It was some type of a poisonous snake, but I'm not sure what type. This snake didn't try to bite me, but instead turned into a man and was having a conversation with me. But, I had company coming over and it was insisting on turning back into a snake so it could bite people. I would lock it into a room, and it would turn into a man and open the door. The same was true when I tried to get it out of my house. I was begging it not to do any harm to anyone. I'm not sure what it means, but it was one of the strangest and most vivid dreams I've ever had.

About five years ago, my twin sister was planning a trip to Las Vegas. A few nights before she left I had a dream that she won a lot of money on the number 35 on a roulette wheel. I told her about the dream the next day and had to ask her if the numbers even go that high on a roulette wheel and she told me they go up to number 36. The moment she got there she put a fairly large sum of money on number 35 but at the last second took most of the money away. Number 35 was called and she still ended up winning almost $500! She called me right then screaming about my dream coming true. I never really believed in the whole twins having a psychic connection thing but after that I now believe it's true.

Approximately 4 - 5 days prior to an aunt's death at the age of almost 95, I dreamed that I drove to the nursing home, picked her up and we went for a drive. During this drive we drove past a house she and her husband had built when first married about 70 years prior. We passed a "Tara" type house where she had lived for awhile as a child and where her father was born, past the house where she was born and I was quite familiar with, to an old pre-civil war cemetery I had also grown up near. At the cemetery all sorts of people were wandering around sort of "tied" to graves by a mist. Freedy introduced me to most of the people in the cemetery (most of whom I would be related to). We then drove to a house built by my great2 grandparents where Freedy had spent considerable time with her grandparents, aunts and uncles. We then drove down to a creek with large, flat limestone shelves where her family (and mine) had frequently picnicked in the autumn when the creek was fairly dry. We then drove up the Mississippi to the town of Nauvoo, IL, turned around and returned to the picnic place where we stopped. While we were stopped, two sort of pillars of light approached. Freedy happily greeted them as her husband and her favorite brother (my father). The dream then ended.

During this time, I know I was trying to wake up, but I just couldn't.

I have told a few people about this and am not sure I was entirely asleep. It did occur early in the morning and not really at night. One of my friends insists Freedy had wanted one last trip with me, and forced me on the little drive, not letting go until she was ready to.

I do know that I have an ESP sort of thing with those I am very close to. On an occasion several years earlier, on Mother's Day I just had to call Freedy. I found out she had fallen the day before, had climbed back into her house and gone to bed so she could get well. I called some of her friends who checked on her and took her to the local hospital, drove all night to see how she was and spent a week and had her set up with nurses, meals on wheels, etc. It is the unavoidable urge to contact someone that I have with some people.

I just can't forget this dream and still wonder what was going on.

I dreamt that a sister of mine (who died in February) hadn't really died and that my family had just lied to me about her death and was hiding her from me.

I know this wasn't true because I was holding her hand when she passed away.

I think it means that I can't trust my family, which I'm sure is true!

This is not about sharing a dream, but a question on dreams themselves.

Everything mentioned in the article focused on the visual imagery of dreams. What do people born blind "see" in dreams, or do their dreams take another form?
