Posted on May 29, 2007 5:21:29 PM  |  By SimplyStatedAdmin

Sure, cranking up the AC at full blast is one way to fight a heat wave -- provided you don’t get steamed when you see the bill. Do you have any inventive, surprising ways to beat the summer heat?

We have a pool in the yard and dipping into it on a summer evening is wonderful.

In Argentina there are few places that are ever air conditioned, its too expensive. To cool off there are a number or things I do. One is to take an ice cold shower about 3 times a day, but don't dry off. The dry heat in Neuquén will do that for you in 5 minutes. Another way is to go grocery shopping, all of the big grocery stores do have air-conditioning. Its a great way to cool down and get something done. Plus it means that I can linger over what I want to cook for dinner.

How to beat the summer heat?
Take everything out of the fridge and sit in it.
After a few moments, you feel great.
Just don't shut the door on yourself.

Living in the Hot and Humid south, I have found that wearing loose cotton clothing, (no bra), kicking off my shoes, having a breeze either from a window or a fan on low, and rubbing ice cubes on pulse points, wrists, neck especially will cool you off very fast.

Since our home is 120 years old and doesn't have air conditioning, we open all the windows at night and use box fans in the windows to circulate the air. Then in the morning, we quickly close all the windows and pull the shades trapping the cooler air Also, we have many mature maple trees in our yard. They soak up the sun rays and provide shade for our house.

We don't have any air conditioning, but the nights can get quite hot with no breeze! To keep cool, I freeze water in (tightly-sealed) litre bottles, wrap them in a thin pillowcase and toss them into bed.

There is nothing more enjoyable during the summer than relaxing in a flowy skirt under a shady tree in the Fullerton Arboretum and watching my kids feed the ducks. While the trees offer comfort, my toddlers' giggles offer therapy.

I KEEP BOTTLES HALF FILLED WITH WATER IN THE FREEZER. WHEN I GO OUT I FILL THE HALF-ICED BOTTLE WITH WATER. THIS WAY I HAVE COLD WATER FOR A LONGER TIME TO BEAT THE HEAT!!

I pull my hair back, pin it up and put a cool cloth on my neck. I wear sandals so my feet can breathe I'm ok. Drink alot of cold water. SNOWCONES! If your at an outside event don't try to run from the heat..just get it over with and stand the heat.
