Pick up a book and you're instantly transported to another place, one you may later have the good fortune to visit in the flesh. Or watch a movie -- one with a flavorful or exotic setting -- and get inspired with wanderlust.

"You've Got Mail" makes even living in New York City look fun. "Don't you just love New York in the fall, makes me want to by school supplies," Tom Hanks' character says. The movie shows some of the classic things about the city, especially the Upper West Side, and makes you want to see what's so iconic about Zabar's gourmet emporium or see if Gray's Papaya hot dogs are any good. (I know too much about this movie.) The movie just puts this chic, romantic glimmer over the city.

I am especially intrigued by small towns whether abroad or in the U.S. and wish that studios would consider adding this credit at the start of a movie, ie filmed on location at..... This would be a boon to the tourism department of the individual town as well as those of us who are enticed visually to seek out a particular place.

The book Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert made me fall in love with Italy. Go. You must go to Florence. I studied there last summer. I would be happy to talk anyone's ear off about it and send pictures. You will fall in love.
