The best gifts are the unexpected ones - leaves cleaned out of the gutters, drive way cleaned of snow, something special in my front door - any unexpected gifts.

I had been wanting a cd player in my old 1996 escort for a while. One day, very close to my birthday, I needed the oil in my car changed so my boyfriend offered to take care of it for me. When I went to get in my car a couple days later, I was shocked when a cd player started blaring Big Band music (music he and I love). The tears would not stop flowing from happiness.

After working as a temp for a few weeks my employer wanted to hire me permanently. Unfortunately I could not type the required 65wpm. My manager instructed me to type slowly and deliberately until I reached the point in the text that was just beyond the 65 wpm mark and left me alone. Essentially he let me take the test un-timed. That one break in my early twenties eventually lead me to my career today.

A friend of mine snuck into my house and cleaned it the day after my wedding. So we came home from our honeymoon to a sparkling clean house. That felt great.

My parents paid for my college and graduate school education. They did this without my asking and gifted me with a life without debt. I am now free to pay for my own apartment without the worry of student loans hanging over my head.
