Well folks, the honeymoon to Ecuador and Peru was phenomenal, save for one minor mishap, which I'll detail in a minute. Thankfully, the mishap did not include anything to do with the husband (husband! A new word in my daily vocabulary) although the two times I called my parents, my mother kept asking us in her half-joking way, "Are you fighting yet?" In fact we did start scrapping a bit -- nitpicky arguments about dumb things like luggage tags and directions. It's almost like, well, we're family now, we're not going anywhere, so we can let it all hang out. In his vows, Husband told me, "I'm the best 'me' in your presence." (Which is, of course, where we both lost it). During the honeymoon he added, laughing, "You know, actually, I think I'm the worst me in your presence too." Fiance: "I think you're more excited about the honeymoon than the wedding!" Well...no, dear. But I am excited. South America here we come! This past weekend we bought our plane tickets and settled on our itinerary. I used my horded away stash of 61k frequent flyer miles and, using a tip from Real Simple's article on how to use miles, I bought a few extra to make the necessary 70,000 miles. It was worth it. Here's our basic itinerary and a few random highlights: Day 1 & 2: Quito, Ecuador: We've planned a blissful "nothing" for the first two days. The travel agent had us touring around, but I think we're going to need two days of "chill out" before...

We started with Stockholm. We added a dash of Copenhagen and a smidge of Barcelona. At first blush, it sounded like a well-rounded honeymoon that took into account my Scandinavian heritage investigation, his love for architecture and plenty of romance, wine and smorgasbords in between. And then we looked at the plummeting value of the dollar. Ack. Right now, one US dollar equals just .64 Euro. If we scaled back, would that make a difference? We spent a week retooling our trip into, simply, a Barcelona jaunt. But a friend who just returned from there warned, "you’ll be spending $15 on a glass of wine" – which, other than gawk at the Gaudi, is what you kinda want do on your Barcelona honeymoon. The next week I met with a travel agent who told me a cruise was the way to go. “You spend all your money upfront, your meals...
