So, like anyone in a wedding state of mind, it was hard for me to look at Mrs. Obama's Jason Wu inauguration ballgown without thinking Wedding. So I went hunting around and found that Mr. Wu has had a number of wedding like offerings in his collections, both past and present. Here is a look from his most recent collection. Young Mr. Wu loves working in bridal mode, because he also created these gorgeous gowns fit for bridal attire. But, if you were just totally blown away by Michelle Obama's gown and knot that THAT is the dress.... well, no need to fear the price tag. Edressme.com is offering a knockoff (under their Michelle Obama style link) for only $320!!!! So, what do we think? Is Mr. Wu wedding worthy?

Last night was the Always a Bridesmaid Glamour Night at Pronovias and we had the best time. Part of the event was a mini-fashion show for the brides in attendance and I thought I would share some of the gorgeous gowns with you.

I've noticed lately that the "Anti-Bride" movement has really been growing in popularity. The gowns have gotten funkier, a lot less poofy and the accessories are much more fashion forward. This spirit is embodied in a new line of bridal attire called, fittingly, Punk Rock Bride. Designed by RISD graduate Stephanie Ward for the bride looking for something untraditional, but well crafted. These dresses definitely fit the bill. But there is also a timeless quality about a bride wearing a Ballgown with a Cathedral Length train. I equally love these grand gowns Austin Scarlett designed for Kenneth Poole. So, which kind of bride are you? More Punk or more Princess?

Yes Lucy, I loved my dress. I brought two friends with me to witness my first gown fitting at Blue. We waited for a bit while a quartet of buzzy bridesmaids crammed into the tiny shop for their fittings. Christina Kara, the dressmaker, had me step into her size 6 heels (I didn't bring any, and I'm a size 10) and squeeze into a small bustier (yep, forgot that too) before draping two pieces of the dress around me. First the tulle underlay, then the cocktail-length duchess satin wrap. It has this cool, vintage-y collar, almost like Heidi Klum's Grammy dress meets Siri's "Vivian Leigh" dress. The length is what my mom just described as, "what we'd call ballerina length in the '50s." She added, "We'd have lots of poof underneath the skirt so the boys couldn't get too close." I'd show you the real deal but then my fiance...

Here's where I was not last week: The Running of the Brides, the annual slash and grab at Filene's Basement where bridal gown prices are marked down by 95% and brides trash the place looking for "the one." Instead, I wait for March 18 when I will see my dress for the first time. As a larger sized bride, I've decided to forgo the pain and suffering of size 5 samples and just have one made to fit. RIght? And I didn't want to spend a fortune. Right again. So I did some research online and found Blue, a sliver of a boutique in Manhattan' s East Village where dressmaker Christina Kara sews them up at a reasonable price. When I arrived at the shop several weeks ago, Kara was standing outside in the cold in sturdy Chanel rain boots, puffing on a cigarette. Inside her tiny shop it's nothing...
