Decorative Paper Runners
Posted on Feb 6, 2009 9:31:21 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

A few years ago, we were working on a very wedding in a fabulous outdoor location, The Tobacco Warehouse, where budget became a consideration. To save on linen rental, but still make the accent tables (for escort cards, programs and more) feel special, the bride selected pretty patterned papers to serve as runners. The idea was so great, cheap and simple, I've been excited to see it turn up again. This wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty a few months ago and they used a bold damask pattern to create a real atmosphere at their wedding. The photos are by Angelica Glass and the wedding was by James Abel. In case your in need of some inspiration, or don't have access to a stationary store or paperie, I thought I'd post some of the more fun and funky patterns available from 2.25 per sheet at Paper-Source. And, they're eco-friendly,...

Grey is the Color of the Moment
Posted on Jan 22, 2009 9:18:36 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

If you haven't noticed, Grey is the wedding color couture these days! I think it's going to be what we see for 2009, and am already seeing "sneak peaks" here and there. In case you haven't noticed, some of the trends and boards I've seen out there. This Pink and Grey Inspiration board, via Snippet and Ink: Then there were these amazing dresses from Vera Wang and this awesome head piece from The House of Telsa (via Brooklyn Bride) And then there are the invitations.....This amazing Kenzie Kate invitation (the best quality, btw) was featured in a Real Wedding Wrap Up from Elizabeth Anne Designs. So, what do you think? Is Grey the chic color of the moment or a little too drab for your wedding?

While Visions of Linens Dash Through My Head
Posted on Dec 23, 2008 3:38:20 PM  |  By The Blogsmaid

Hopefully the downtime from work this next week will offer you a wee bit of design time to dream about your reception. One of the great ways to trim your decorating budget is to actually spend a little bit more money on your tablecloths. Linen rental is a creative way to make a statement and fill your space without gargantuan centerpieces. While the linens at Wildflower Linens aren't exactly what I'd call budget, they are inspiring, and show how linens can go a long way! Are you doing anything special for your linens or napkins?

Something Special for Decor!
Posted on Dec 17, 2008 10:45:08 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

I just fell in love with this cool and funky stuff from Chalkboard China! From beverage dispensers to napkin rings and wine glasses, their items are either made from or contain chalk board details. How do you get more personal than that? I love this beverage dispenser and think it would be great for a drink station for a daytime wedding, and the napkin rings are a great alternative to a place card. But the real creative showpiece are the vases.... imagine how much fun these would be at a casual wedding, where guests can get really creative! What do you think? Shabby Chic, or just a novelty?

DIY Details Revealed
Posted on Aug 12, 2008 12:18:00 PM  |  By The Blogsmaid

With wedding details being all the rage, it's easy to go online and find cool, cute items like drink stirrers, coasters and table number signs to jazz up your wedding look. But sometimes the best things in life are free (and involve a glue stick). Here are some of my favorite DIY wedding details. For this wedding, the bride and groom created a graphic of their silhouette and made tags, labels and more to decorate their cupcake display, to alert guests to the after-party location, and to encourage them to take a fan. Thanks to Karen Mordechai for sending these photos of Marlene and Todd's grand fete. Sometimes paper and patterns can make all the difference. For this wedding, the bride and groom created stencil cut outs for their table numbers and then used a patterned paper in the background. For their guestbook, they utilized a rainbow palette of note...
