Parading Parsols
Posted on Nov 6, 2008 4:50:31 PM  |  By The Blogsmaid

I've been wild about parasols for some time. They are a bridesmaids' (and a bride's) best friend. Not only are they flirty, potentially colorful and fun, but at an outdoor ceremony they serve as both decor and bridal party flowers- and sometimes cheaper too! I went nuts for these personalized parasols at Tange Designs Parasols bargains abound at Pearl River Market, where you can go solid or patterned, paper or silk. And the look is lovely, especially for destination weddings. I loved this photo via Sparkly to Spouse What do you think of Parasols? Great, or Gone with the Wind?

Great Groomsmen Gifts
Posted on Sep 16, 2008 11:23:59 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

The other day, the photographer Jeff Tisman stopped by to show us some of his work and I was totally inspired by this photo of monogrammed shirts for the groomsmen. I thought that this would be such a great, and sort of unique gift for groomsmen, who are notoriously hard to shop for. Jos. A Banks offers monogramming on the cuffs (or elsewhere) for a nominal fee and who can't use another dress shirt? I love practical gifts, but I get a bit tired of cufflinks, so why not spice it up their look with an awesome pocket square. Not only are they the height of fashion, but they tie into the look of your bridal party AND they eliminate the need for boutonnieres. This particular square is Hermes ($125, a little over the top, but the orange box is always a luxe surprise) but you can nap a bargain...

Mini Decision of the Day: Dress Color
Posted on Feb 27, 2008 6:57:31 PM  |  By SimplyStatedAdmin

Cherry. Carrot. Mint. No, wait maybe Carrot. Argh. Sure, marriage is about love, but weddings are really about many, many mini decisions. Today's decision is all about the color of the bridesmaid dresses (and it won't be dusty rose). As noted in an earlier post, my sister, matron-o-honor extraordinaire, is in charge of this particular task. There's also the shape to consider -- boatneck, v-neck or scoopneck; floor-length or tea. And what shoes? Guh. My sister spent time scouring the web and came up with a few interesting dress leads: She sent this chic blue number from Simple Silhouettes; and this versatile two-piecer. And then she sent one from a dress shop called LulaKate Bridal in Charleston, SC. "I like these the best," She wrote. Luckily, I did too. And as fate would have it, our dad, who occasionally travels to Charleston on business, happened to be going in a...

Bridesmaids: The Good, Bad and The Pink Polyester
Posted on Jan 11, 2008 2:02:40 PM  |  By SimplyStatedAdmin

Email sent last night from sister, aka Matron of Honor (MOH): “Yo Margit: do you have time to talk on the phone soon? things are cooking! and I want to make sure you are informed and as your matron of honor/agent that I/we plan what you want.” It’s a great thing when your sister is the ultra-organized and meticulous one, home with two babies and wants to plan your wedding. Like a bejeweled attack dog, the MOH is tearing into the task of finding the best bridesmaid dresses (for all shapes and sizes no doubt), the shower, the bachelorette party, and who knows what else. But pinpointing the perfect Bridesmaid Dress is her real challenge. Has anyone ever re-worn their bridesmaid dress? My worst ever? (See left) A dusty rose taffeta-meets-polyester number with poofy shoulders, accompanied by my 16-year-old asymmetrical bob. The 1980s were not particularly kind. Uglydress.com has some...
