Cakes
Creative Cake Alternatives
Posted on Jan 29, 2009 2:01:50 PM  |  By The Blogsmaid

Wedding Cakes aren't for everyone, but the truth is, I'm getting a little tired of cupcakes. So why not think outside the box a bit? I saw this amazing truffle cake on Snippet and Ink that was made by I Dream of Cake, and I find it just dreamy. For those of you Francofiles out there, why not a Crocombouche? The traditional French wedding dessert literally translates into Crush In Mouth and makes for a mouthwatering display. Photo Courtesy Daniel Chin Photography. But, truth be told, we have a slew of home grown treats right here in America that make for fun loving dessert displays. Like this Twinkie Cake from Laptop Bride, or this donut extravaganza from Cakella. So, are any of you doing something unusual for your wedding cake?

Posted on Jan 27, 2009 1:01:57 PM  |  By The Blogsmaid

So, like anyone in a wedding state of mind, it was hard for me to look at Mrs. Obama's Jason Wu inauguration ballgown without thinking Wedding. So I went hunting around and found that Mr. Wu has had a number of wedding like offerings in his collections, both past and present. Here is a look from his most recent collection. Young Mr. Wu loves working in bridal mode, because he also created these gorgeous gowns fit for bridal attire. But, if you were just totally blown away by Michelle Obama's gown and knot that THAT is the dress.... well, no need to fear the price tag. Edressme.com is offering a knockoff (under their Michelle Obama style link) for only $320!!!! So, what do we think? Is Mr. Wu wedding worthy?

Posted on Jan 22, 2009 9:18:36 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

If you haven't noticed, Grey is the wedding color couture these days! I think it's going to be what we see for 2009, and am already seeing "sneak peaks" here and there. In case you haven't noticed, some of the trends and boards I've seen out there. This Pink and Grey Inspiration board, via Snippet and Ink: Then there were these amazing dresses from Vera Wang and this awesome head piece from The House of Telsa (via Brooklyn Bride) And then there are the invitations.....This amazing Kenzie Kate invitation (the best quality, btw) was featured in a Real Wedding Wrap Up from Elizabeth Anne Designs. So, what do you think? Is Grey the chic color of the moment or a little too drab for your wedding?

The Candles of Belle Fleur
Posted on Jan 21, 2009 9:48:35 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

What do you get for the bridesmaid who has it all? These days, I'm thinking a Belle Fleur candle would do the trick. I received one last week and was just blown away by the packaging and presentation of this elegant, oh-so-fragrant candle. The prices vary from $48-68, but your bridesmaid will enjoy it for a long time to come. What do you think? Gorgeous or extravagent?

The ULTIMATE Organizer
Posted on Jan 13, 2009 11:08:26 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

I'm a huge fan of Russel + Hazel products, so I was thrilled to hear that fellow blogger Anne Chertoff had partnered with them to create the ultimate wedding organizer. Like all Russel + Hazel products it's design is clean, simple and pretty with over six lovely colors to choose from and tons of customizable options. I had previously blogged about using blogs as organizers, but for those of you who are pen and paper based, this is definitely worth check out. The chic binder is command central for all the elements in the system. Inside are printed tabs for primary sections and unprinted tabs for customization. Also included are business-card holders, pockets for receipts, sheet protectors (perfect for fabric swatches or magazine clippings of dresses and fl owers), post-it notes and page markers. These elements, with their chartreuse and orchid accents make it hard to stop planning! The planner...

Happy Honeymooning!
Posted on Jan 8, 2009 12:55:45 PM  |  By The Blogsmaid

After the glorious wedding day and the romantic wedding night, what better way to extend marital bliss than by..... losing your luggage? It's an unfortunate hassle that sometimes happens, in addition to the general hassle of security and dragging big honeymoon size luggage around the airport. Luggage Forward takes the luggage trauma out of travel and ships your luggage door to door. I know this service used to be considered a luxury, but now with all of the baggage fees, I wonder if it isn't worth the money? Have any of you ever shipped your luggage?

Poll: Scaling Back
Posted on Jan 6, 2009 10:26:39 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

I've noticed a lot of my clients scaling back a bit on their wedding plans in light of the downturn in the economy. From skipping the dessert course to doing DIY invites and even switching from a dinner to a cocktail reception, many couples are opting to scale back while others are forging full steam ahead. So, I'm wondering, what are you plans? Are you scaling back because of the downturn? And if so, how?
