Wedding Feet

A few weeks ago, while at a wedding, I saw a gaggle of bridesmaids surrounding our dear bride, surrounding a circle of visibly uncomfortable strappy sandals.  Buying shoes for your wedding ensemble or bridesmaids' dress is a fun, exciting and sometimes whirlwind experience: you fall in love, you act impulsively, you worry about the consequences later.  But uncomfortable wedding shoes can take their toll on a lady during a long wedding day.  Some wedding shoe tips:

* Chunky Helps:  The chunkier the heel, the longer the wear.  Same with rounded toes.  Nothing beats a sexy stiletto, but if you can "make it work", all the better for your back!
* Break-in:   Everyone says this, but so few people do it.  Wear your shoes around the house for at least an hour or two a day for the last couple of weeks before the wedding.
* Sticky soles!  Dr. Scholl's makes these awesomely invisible strappy sandal and dress shoe insoles.  They cushion the ball of your foot and absorb some of the shock of the heel, but remain nicely out of site. I tried them out myself a couple of weeks ago and loved them.
* Have a back up.  Even the best shoe sometimes needs to say good night.  When it's time to change shoes, I love these terry flip flops from Mella.  They can even serve as your something blue!

So, have you devised a shoe strategy?

I'm letting my bridesmaids choose their own shoes. I've given them the guideline that the shoes must be silver - but the style is their choice. This way, if they are uncomfortable, it's not my fault!
Plus it's one less planning issue for me to worry about!

Shannon I did a similar thing with my ladies as well. I said silver and that was it I even left it up to them if they wanted to wear hose or not they were long dresses I told them to do what they wanted. They all had different heel heights so that they were comfortable and one sister wore shoes she already owned. No one really looks at their feet anyway. As for me the bride I found my shoes at JCPenny on clearance! They were fab and all I added was insolia insoles and wore them from 8 AM -5 PM without a worry and danced the afternoon away. I didn't go for "wedding shoes" a nice pewter colored sandal that I plan on wearing at the very least on every anniversary when we go out for dinner, it is won't attract attention like wearing the wedding dress again but that way I get part of the day back. :)

I'm also letting my bridesmaids wear the shoes they feel comfortable. Ever since my fiance bought me a gorgeous diamond engagement ring from www.idonowidont.com as a bride-to-be, I decided that I want a very simple and fun wedding. So if all the bridesmaids are wearing all the same blue dresses, the shoes can be whatever they want!

I borrowed my wedding dress -- the ultimate in "real simple" -- but it was just barely long enough in my bare feet. I wore ballet slippers (no stockings either!) and was comfortable all day and night, even in the August heat. And no one even noticed! My bridesmaid wore sundresses with their choice of white sandals, so everyone got to be comfortable. Let's face it, if you're wincing with every step it's hard to enjoy one of the biggest events of your lifetime.

I recommend the Josie style made by Dyables. Chunky, but good-sized heel and wide straps make this a good all-night candidate.

Twenty years ago...for myself, I wore ballet type shoes (white satin, low heel) for the wedding itself, and then switched to beautiful blue Isotoner slippers (satin type with lace trim) for the reception. My bridal party wore low heeled shoes similar to mine, and most went shoeless at the reception...no complaints of shoe-related aches or pains!!

I let my bridesmaids choose their own shoes. Being the smart ladies they are, they chose to wear shoes they already owned and knew to be comfortable. As far as my own shoes, like most brides, my dress was so big that no one could see them. I wore bright purple ballet flats with a big rhinestone on each one. When they were seen, it was only a flash of color as a twirld on the dance floor!
