Destination Details
Posted on Oct 16, 2008 11:19:09 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

With the cold weather settling in, my thoughts have been turning more tropical.  I thought it would be cool to showcase some great destination wedding details that have been popping up.  One of the hardest parts about destination weddings, especially in the Caribbean, is that often flowers we love to use state side are quite pricey there.  So I loved this very clean, contemporary centerpece idea from Beach Theme Weddings.
It utilizes lanterns and palm leaves, which I thought could also make a great theme for a tropical or beach locale.

I thought this Aloha invitation from CECI White Label (the ready to order line from CECI) was chic and fun way to give your guests the details for your day.  As any of you who are planning destination wedding days know, there is usually a ton of info to convey to guests, so I'm into the pocket insert.

Sometimes, I feel like there is a lot of pressure on couples doing destination to do really lavish things, like amazing gift bags.  The shipping and customs stuff can be a REAL point of stress though, so I loved this idea I saw on Bliss Wedding Market of using oversize Chinese Take Out Boxes with labels instead. This photo is a New York City theme, but I think it could easily be adapted.  They can flat pack easily in a suitcase and hold some sun screen, a little water, some advil packets and maybe a bottle of local liquor?

With ease being a key point of DIY destination celebrations, I love these Mini Palm leaf fans.  Affix your place card or escort card to them and they double as a keep-cool favor.  Not to mention, once again, the ease of flat packing.

Are you having a destination wedding?  What have been some of your favorite details?

When it comes to destination weddings I am totally biased towards promoting my own country as the ideal destination to really splash on your most beautiful day. With the Rand / Dollar exchange rate at just over 10 to 1 at the moment, what a pleasure! As a wedding photographer, I can offer my most expensive package with all the bells and whistles at the ridiculous price of $1,666 to a bride from the USA. That price comes even down more if you are paying in pounds! You can pick the best of the best in a country like South Africa and pay the same or far less (depending on your taste and budget) than you would have in your own country. And our weather is mostly spectacular too! Choose from a beach wedding in Cape Town to a real African Bush Safari Wedding in the Kruger Park and surrounds.
