Group Transportation

If you have a large wedding party you may have already discovered that short of a fleet of standard limos, or a music video worthy Hummer stretch, your options for getting your "troops" around town seem a little bit limited. I thought it might be worth while to post about some of the more interesting options for group transportation. These might be a little bit harder to find outside of major metro areas, but not impossible. I love vintage trolleys. Not only is one great for the wedding party (and parents, photogs, videographers, etc), but it can be a great way to shuttle guests to and fro as well. The trolley not only adds something special to photos, but it can often be more economic than a grand stretch SUV. For you California girl, what could be more unique than an old Woody- like in the surfer movies. These awesome...

Poll: To Veil or Not To Veil?
Posted on Sep 25, 2008 4:59:59 PM  |  By The Blogsmaid

I've been thinking a lot about how varied and fashionable veils have become lately and also how just as often, brides are skipping the veil all together. It got me wondering, what are you doing with your veil? To inspire the conversation, here are some real "lookers" that have gotten my attention lately.

DIY Photo Booth Tips
Posted on Sep 23, 2008 11:46:14 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

I had a weekend that was book-ended in wonderful weddings that shared one particularly successful element in common- the Polaroid Guest book. This isn't the first time we've had these at a client's wedding and I'm sure many of you readers have heard about them, but take it from me, time and again, they are consistent crowd pleasers and make a guest book worth visiting again and again. My one thought about how to improve them is a backdrop. A backdrop can add an element of fun to your photo guest book and up the ante a bit in terms of style. It's also a great way to create that Photo booth feeling without the cost of renting one. You can either go for something really professional looking in a solid, dramatic shade like this one that I found on Two Brides,or it could have a more homespun feeling like...

Lapel Worthy

I often find inspiration (and learn from) my brides and their cool and creative ideas. Today I had a visit with a client right after she came back from visiting Leah C Couture Millinery where she picked up her Groom's boutonniere. Her wedding is a few weeks away, so I was a bit confused until I saw this amazing, non-floral, feathered creation. They are a little pricey, but gorgeous. It got me thinking about other cool, non-floral boutonnieres (sort of like pins for men...) at more reasonable prices or that could be DIY. I mean who says a boutonniere has to have cut flowers. I found these on Etsy at the Tinarie 21 shop. What is your groom wearing on his lapel? Are you doing anything unusual?

Bridal Party
Great Groomsmen Gifts
Posted on Sep 16, 2008 11:23:59 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

The other day, the photographer Jeff Tisman stopped by to show us some of his work and I was totally inspired by this photo of monogrammed shirts for the groomsmen. I thought that this would be such a great, and sort of unique gift for groomsmen, who are notoriously hard to shop for. Jos. A Banks offers monogramming on the cuffs (or elsewhere) for a nominal fee and who can't use another dress shirt? I love practical gifts, but I get a bit tired of cufflinks, so why not spice it up their look with an awesome pocket square. Not only are they the height of fashion, but they tie into the look of your bridal party AND they eliminate the need for boutonnieres. This particular square is Hermes ($125, a little over the top, but the orange box is always a luxe surprise) but you can nap a bargain...

Reception
Six Degrees of Wedding Guests
Posted on Sep 11, 2008 9:13:48 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

I'm the nosiest wedding planner. Whenever I'm organizing escort cards for clients, I sit there and wonder "I wonder how they know this person?" If you are anything like me as a wedding guest, you've also probably played the same guessing game and poured over the program for tidbits of info on the wedding party or tried to figure out which table was school friends, which ones work, etc. Well, you can save your nosy guests the frustration AND help get your guests mingling with these O So Cool Social Information Charts from Melangerie. Doing double duty as a seating chart, these "maps" cleverly display how the bride and groom know each of their guests, which guests are connected to each other, how long each guest has been in acquaintance with the happy couple AND even what table everyone is sitting at. A print of the graphic can be on...

September Surprises
Posted on Sep 9, 2008 10:21:52 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

Like a lot of you, I find it hard to let go of the summer, so the month of September is a bitter sweet one as far as the weather goes. For weddings though, its a homerun! This not quite fall, not quite summer time leaves tons of room for your imagination to run wild and I know I'm inspired by the Zinnias, Dahlias and Cosmos that are available for flowers. Here are some of my favorite seasonal looks. September brides, what looks of the season are you incorporating? Tell us about your great September decor ideas. This September wedding used the bright colors of Dahlias and Zinnias against the deep colors of the bridesmaids gowns to create pop and contrast with a sophisticated look. Wildflowers are kind of difficult to recreate in sugar form, but if anyone can do it, the amazing Ron Ben-Israel can. I spotted these amazing...

Do Me A Favor
Posted on Sep 4, 2008 5:56:20 PM  |  By The Blogsmaid

A couple of weeks ago one of our clients gave away a favor that I just adored- these amazing, plantable seeded papers from Botanical Paperworks. They offer a range of products and notecards with imprinted messages, that are embedded with wildflower seeds which can be put in a pot of soil to grow and bloom (like your love). Most of their products are made of 100% post consumer waste. These butterfly cards would be great stand alone favors or a good way to tell people about a charitable donation that you two have made. Lately, I've noticed a 50/50 split between traditional favors vs. donations. Where do you stand: Charitable Donation or a memorable token of thanks? Maybe a combination of both?

Things for the Wee Ones
Posted on Sep 3, 2008 10:12:26 AM  |  By The Blogsmaid

Vane of Brooklyn Bride, being the enterprising lady that she is, emailed to say that she has launched her newest endeavor, Brooklyn Pillow. Vane, an interior designer by profession, creates her lovely pillows with fabrics available to the trade as well as other inspiring vintage fabrics. She eventually plans to offer a broader range of wedding accessories, but for now, her pillows will give your ring bearer (and photographer) something to smile about. Since there are so many cute things for the ring-bearers in your life, it's only fitting to find something equally adorable for your flower girls. I thought this felt basket was really unique (via Fairy Felts shop on Etsy) For people more florally inclined, Easter Yu offers this lovely basket, which is very sweet. Elmo and Ike offer this cool flower girl pouch, which is a bit more like a purse (which we know little girls love)...
