DIY Photo Booth Tips

I had a weekend that was book-ended in wonderful weddings that shared one particularly successful element in common- the Polaroid Guest book. This isn't the first time we've had these at a client's wedding and I'm sure many of you readers have heard about them, but take it from me, time and again, they are consistent crowd pleasers and make a guest book worth visiting again and again.

My one thought about how to improve them is a backdrop. A backdrop can add an element of fun to your photo guest book and up the ante a bit in terms of style. It's also a great way to create that Photo booth feeling without the cost of renting one. You can either go for something really professional looking in a solid, dramatic shade like this one that I found on Two Brides,or it could have a more homespun feeling like this very simple DIY drop I saw on My Bridestory.

Either way, you can have some fun with the fabric and whether you use pins, a drape or a clothesline, it's a pretty simple DIY, day-of add-on to personalize your space.
Are any of you using a photo booth, either old fashioned or DIY, for your wedding day?

I absolutely LOVE this idea! I will pass this along to my clients looking for some good DIY ideas. Thanks for the info!

This is a fun idea but do it while you can...in February, Polaroid announced that they will no longer manufacture their instant films after 2009.

You might consider using a digital camera and a small-format inkjet printer to actually print the photos right before their eyes! Many people are just learning about this new technology and will be fascinated by it...besides, you can get your 'geeky' nephew to take the photos for you!

I did this for my guest book at my wedding back in 2006 and love it. I can go back and remember everyone who attended my wedding from both sides of the family. But yes, polaroid will no longer be making the film. :(

I asked my cousins to take pictures of all the guests with digital cameras at my wedding and it worked pretty well - had I planned better, I would've had an extra fully charged battery on hand. One of my crafty bridesmaids put together a guest book with photo corners, then everyone signed by where their picture would eventually end up.
I went to a wedding this summer where the photographer brought in an assistant and a booth - it looked like the old photo booths and everyone got a strip of 4 black and white pictures; we chose one, glued it into the guest book and signed beside it. It was a hit!
