Yes, the wedding is planned to take place outdoors. And yes, I know that it will be lovely no matter what...and yet, and yet, here I am, four days before the wedding, obsessively refreshing weather.com and accuweather.com for zip code 10567. (And yes, my fiancé, mother, friends and colleagues are surely already tired of this endless discussion.) So far the forecast calls for upper 80s, with scattered thunderstorms. Chance of rain 40%. The weather is notoriously hard to predict and fickle this time of year so honestly I think I'd be tense even if the report called for 100% clear-blue skies. Storms seem to pop in and out of nowwhere. Here's hoping they at least hold of for 2 hours on Saturday evening.
Can anyone 'talk me down' off my meteorological ledge—to just help me somehow relax about it all?--Liz
Posted by: Margit| July 23, 2008 at 12:07 PM I went to a wedding where it didn't rain - it flooded. It was an evening, outdoor reception. Of the four generators running the tent, two blew. Because of this, all of the DJ equipment and all the lights but some twinkle Christmas lights went out right during the middle of the daddy-daughter dance. After a couple of minutes, the bride's family got together and sang "Going to the Chapel" a capella, and the speeches were given. Right at the end of the best man's speech, everything jumped back to life! It was the best wedding I've EVER been to! Two stories for you (2) My little sister was married in the torrent that was Columbus Day weekend October 2005. Sheets of rain from Friday through Saturday night after the reception, we all walked out to our cars with a clear sky. Anyway the horse and carriage ride was still a hit for her and cozy with the top up. The castle had minor leaks which only meant moving the cake and cookies. A minor bucket here or there. And after everyone left she changed out of her dress into street clothes, and when she returned the ceiling tiles above the dance floor broke and water went everywhere. But all was good even the DJ had left by that point. She has some wonder full pictures of us in the rain and under the portico. Just think that if it happens you might have a light mist that will look great in pictures and enhance the view. Pictures in the rain often turn out wonderfully because of the light I am not sure why but I bet your photog would tell you that to and be able to give a technical reason. Best of luck and congratulations. I did the EXACT SAME THING for literally a month before my May 10th wedding, starting as soon as weather.com and accuweather.com started having forecasts that far out. For the two weeks before the wedding, it definitely looked like it was going to rain that weekend. Outdoor ceremony. Back-up site in case of rain was godawful. I was breaking into hives at the idea of having to use the back-up site. Freaked out for two weeks straight. We had a tornado on Thursday (wedding was a Saturday). A HUGE tornado that did a ton of damage. Some guests were delayed because of the weather. It was gorgeous on Friday for our rehearsal dinner. I held out hope, but the forecast still called for rain on Saturday. I can tell you, quite honestly, that the weather turned out to be absolutely perfect for the ceremony. We could not have asked for anything better. It was sunny and breezy (not that that kept me from sweating like a pig from the waist down under the crinoline of my dress) and fantastically gorgeous. And when we woke up the next morning to catch our flight to California, it was POURING, the same way it was supposed to have done on our wedding day. It was completely perfect. And yet, I know it would have been perfect even if we'd been forced to get married inside, too. Don't worry about it. :) You'll be okay!! I was convinced it was going to storm on my wedding, and it wasn't even outdoors - however our guests did have to do about a 1/4 mile hike across the road from the church to our reception. The reception was mostly inside, but we had a tent outside as well as a pavilion. Too many guests for inside! And it did rain - that morning. But it was over in a flash, and it turned out to be an absolutely gorgeous late afternoon/early evening sunset and no rain at all! Good luck, best wishes, all that jazz...it will be beautiful no matter what! :) You must have had a perfect day The weather was FANTASTIC on Saturday (in NYC) how did it go??? Saturday was the day of my Surprise Bridal shower.... and My what a surprise I got!!! - I am Getting married in London on August 30th, the Ceremony is inside but who wants rain on their wedding day!? This the Wedding being in London (where I am from) you can never rule out rain - spring, summer, autumn or winter! Congrats! How did it turn out? |

I'm rooting for you Liz! Praying to the Incan sun gods :-)
By the way it actually drizzled on my wedding day which I completely forgot about. (You'll be so caught up in the moment it won't matter).
It was so hot it was actually a blessing in disguise in that we were inside for the ceremony, in front of a giant picture window overlooking an herb garden and there was AIR CONDITIONING. The older folks loved that.
