You have nothing to lose but your...exclusivity?

Brides.com, authors of Wedded Bits, threw a lovely luncheon for wedding bloggers today and invited the "bee all end all" of bloggers, including, yes, Bee from Wedding Bee , as well as bloggers from Always a Bridesmaid, It's a Jaime Thing, Brooklyn Bride, Eco-Chic Weddings, Perfect BoundWedding Dish, From I Will To I Do and yours truly.

[I like this because it looks like I'm saying something totally important.]

They cast it as a "potluck lunch" and, no, they didn't make us bring our own covered dish. Instead they asked each of the bloggers to send along an "item or a blog post" to inspire conversation. I thought I'd share with you what a few of them sent or brought along:

  • The Sexy 10 from Always a Bridesmaid. This post, they say, is one of their most popular -- it's all about the "sexiest" trends in weddings: from tiny-sized, intimate soirees to the Paloma, a Mexican wedding drink, to Boudoir photography before your wedding.
  • Brooklyn Bride showcased these bizzare-o porcelain cake toppers from Etsy seller Melabo. That squirrel bride is flat out disturbing.

  • Emily Anderson from Eco-Chic Weddings talked about how couples are getting healthier and greener all the time. "Couples use wedding planning as an opportunity to fine-tune their lifestyles at the same time." Emily started her blog to promote her book of the same name, but enjoyed it so much she kept going.
  • The hilarious Anne Chertoff of iVillage's "From I Will To I Do" talked about her obsession with wedding "P.I.B.'s" or pigs in a blanket. "Pigs-in-a-blanket may not sound so stylish – or even look elegant – but many caterers are doing variations of this favorite mini-food and you should find out what your options are – size of the “pigs”, type of dough and most importantly the type of mustard used for dipping." Who knew?

  • Bee Kim from Wedding Bee lugged an actual Gocco with her. "It's the number one search term on our site." Brides are apparently crazy for this DIY screen-printing press.

Midway through the lunch we were introduced to our "mystery guest" which turned out to be fashion designer Angel Sanchez. The dapper designer has created wedding gowns for Sandra Bullock and Eva Longoria to name a few celebs. Sanchez began his career in Venezuela making custom-made gowns. "I'd become super close with all of my clients during that year we worked together." And clearly, he seemed to miss that experience now that he's doing couture. (By the way, I'm not sure I've become super close with my gown designer -- chain-smoking, multi-appointment-rescheduling wonder that she is -- but it's certainly been an "experience.")

Sanchez noted that his favorite fabrics are organza and silk gabardine from Paris and dislikes satins because it's "just so heavy." D'oh.

In October, Sanchez will debut a new line of more affordable dresses ($2200-3000 is what he says is affordable, do we agree ladies?) called Angel by Angel Sanchez and showed us some of his gorgeous creations for his 2009 couture collection. He was all abuzz because one of his dresses is one of four contenders for the Today Show's "Race to the Altar." I have to admit, it is probably my favorite of the four.

A lovely lunch, and great to finally put faces to the blog roll!

My, that squirrel cake topper IS scary! It's cool to hear what all the wedding gurus are up to these days. I'd say that 2200-3000 is VERY affordable for a designer gown and can't wait to see what Angel has come up with!
