Ceremony
Readings, Rituals and our Reverend
Posted on May 29, 2008 1:47:01 PM  |  By Margit

We had a conference call with our officiant this weekend. I was in the office, catching up on some work, and completely forgot we'd scheduled a call. Fiance was at home, so we decided to have a conference call with the Reverend. "Are you there? Reverend? Hello? No? Ugh.") Our Rev was much more skillful with the telephonics; she conferenced us in on her end. "So. Where are we?" She asked, existentially. In fact she meant, with a little over a month to go: Which rituals have we decided to include in our ceremony, what readings do we want, who will be our readers and have we written our vows... oh, and did we get our marriage license yet? Answers: Sort of, not sure, yes and no. And no. We were close to a decision on the rituals she'd suggested: we'd decided on sharing a glass of wine and possibly...

Finding The Perfect Shoe
Posted on May 19, 2008 10:26:31 PM  |  By Margit

Is exhausting. Shoe shopping should be bliss, no? Only when you want to find the perfect shoe, it becomes a chore like any other. I'm in search of the perfect 1-1.5 inch heel (I'm 5'10 and want to be comfortable, dang it). My cocktail length hits just below the knee; so shoes are key. Bear with my rhyme and reason: Perhaps a dyeable shoe from Stu? A gilded shoe from Crew? An unaffordable one from Lou? And if heel height wasn't an issue, I'd go with these from Blue (and Lou) And without further ado, here are 5 more great sites for your bridal shoe quest. Shopbop -- Great labels and the ability to filter your search by brand, trend and more. My Glass Slipper -- I visited their tiny Manhattan shop on the sixth floor of a non-descript office building. Weird environs but a great selection of designers like...

Jenna Bush's Wedding Round-Up
Posted on May 13, 2008 6:38:27 PM  |  By Margit

Taking a break from my own all-important wedding, let's see how the other half lives (the ones who live in the White House). As I'm sure you already know, on Saturday, May 10, Jenna Bush married Henry Hagar in Crawford, Texas. But here are the key dress deets: V-neck, chiffon dress by Oscar de la Renta dress. Fourteen (fourteen!? I'm struggling with the needs of three!) bridesmaids dresses designed by Lela Rose. She wore no veil, and I'm not planning to either -- both of us choosing outdoor ceremonies. See, we have so much in common. Brides.com has a nice photo gallery of the wedding , albeit the same images just about every other site has. Other wedding bloggers have been all a-twitter with reviews: Aisle Dash: "Not overwhelming, but undeniably gorgeous." Paris Celebrations: "I'm in love with this dress!" Wedding Tips Blog: "As you can see her wedding was...

Tasty Cakes: Test-Driving the Wedding Cupcakes
Posted on May 6, 2008 4:44:53 PM  |  By Margit

One word: YUM. I'm hard-pressed to think of a better break in the work day than licking peanut butter icing off my fingers... Heidi, our baker for the wedding, is also the executive producer for RealSimple.com. She comes from a family of caterers/ food industry folk and spends many of her weekends trying new recipes; BBQing for friends and testing out the perfect icing. Just for fun. Fiance and I knew we wanted cupcakes instead of a wedding cake (or a fake wedding cake!) We love the variety you can get with cupcakes and the bite-sized portion. I'll have to add Heidi's cupcakes to my list of favorite cupcakes in NYC including: #1: Sugar Sweet Sunshine: A neighborhood fave. Their eponymous "sunshine" cake is the best. Click the link for ridiculously great photos of their cupcakes. #2: Magnolia Bakery: Duh. Sex and The City and SNL's Digital Short "Lazy Sunday"...
