Finding The Perfect Shoe
Posted on May 19, 2008 10:26:31 PM  |  By Margit

Is exhausting. Shoe shopping should be bliss, no? Only when you want to find the perfect shoe, it becomes a chore like any other. I'm in search of the perfect 1-1.5 inch heel (I'm 5'10 and want to be comfortable, dang it). My cocktail length hits just below the knee; so shoes are key.  Bear with my rhyme and reason:

Perhaps a dyeable shoe from Stu?

A gilded shoe from Crew?

An unaffordable one from Lou?

And if heel height wasn't an issue, I'd go with these from Blue (and Lou)

And without further ado, here are 5 more great sites for your bridal shoe quest.

  1. Shopbop -- Great labels and the ability to filter your search by brand, trend and more.
  2. My Glass Slipper -- I visited their tiny Manhattan shop on the sixth floor of a non-descript office building. Weird environs but a great selection of designers like Kate Spade and Badgley Mishka as well as the standard Coloriffics dyeable sort.
  3. Barneys: The shoe gold standard.

  4. Matt Bernson: Snazzy sandals.
  5. JourNuit: Love their fancy, bedazzled slip-ons.
  6. Zappos: Probably one of the biggest selections you'll find anywhere. Great for less expensive options.

I've ordered a handful of shoes to try on. I'll return the baddies and let you know which one reigns triumphant.

I've been trying to find the perfect shoes for about 3 or 4 months now, since I found my dress. The dress has a very specific red around the waist and I'm trying to get a match or something close enough. It's been very difficult. I finally had my first fitting with the dress and wore the shoes I thought I'd settled on (pair #8 from Zappos) and they didn't work. So I'm back to the drawing board and the wedding's in a month. I have 4 pairsof shoes coming in the mail from Zappos and Amazon. Hopefully one will work! I've found Zappos, Amazon, and like.com have been the best resources. Macy's and Nordstrom have a great selection online but you can't search by color. I'm also restricted by a fiance who's my height (nothing too toweringly tall) and needing something comfortable that will last all night. I told my fiance that it's a cruel joke that something I love to do has become such a chore. Good luck to you!

I found it really hard to decide on a pair of shoes for my wedding... and i had thought it would be one of the easier tasks! I did countless hours of internet searching and debating between various options. I finally decided to go with one of the first pairs that I considered, the Stuart Weitzman Solitaire in fuschia which I got at Nordstrom.

I picked the Pele Moda "Heavenly 2" sandal from Nordstrom, which I found on a trip to Chicago. I love that they are covered in rhinestones, and they are comfortable! They peek out just enough from the bottom of my floor-length dress, so I am excited for the little bit of sparkle.

Also, for Alyssa - you can search Nordstrom.com by color, price, style, size, etc. Click on the "Advanced Search" link and select "Women's Shoes" - then it will bring up a whole bunch of options you can select, including Special Occasion. There is also a link off of the "Womens" page to the Wedding Shop, where they have specially grouped all things wedding related.

It was hard at first but I actually found the perfect shoe (off white beaded flip flop) in the Old Navy kids section (I have small feet) - for $7.50! Zappos was great, though, I was able to return a pair of similar flip flops even 7 months after I bought them and kept them as a back up.

Highly recommend flip flops or cute sneakers if you have a long dress! Very comfy.

I got married last fall, and picking out my shoes took forever. I love shoes, especially unique pairs, and I didn't want "boring" white wedding shoes... so we ended up spending a day and a half looking for the perfect pair.

I eventually found them at an off broadway shoe warehouse. They were brown satin pointed toe slingbacks with a crystal rosette on the toebox.

They were my favorite part of my wedding outfit, and I am so glad I went with a unique wedding shoe!

I've ordered 2 shoes, and my dress is tea-length too so shoes are totally KEY. My personal favorite site is like.com i love the ability to sort by color (and even within a Bridal category).

I've got a favorite of the 2 but we'll see which looks best with the dress when it comes in!

When I was planning my wedding last year, I found the perfect shoes for the perfect price... but the heels were 4" tall. (Ouch!) When I explained the situation to my neighborhood friend The Shoe Repairman, he told me something that changed my life: Shoe repairmen can make high heels shorter! For $11, he cut the heels of my perfect shoes down to 2"--much more manageable. In fact, my emergency reception slippers stayed under my chair the whole night. (On an unrelated note, "'So. Where are we?' She asked, existentially." Ha!)

I found my perfect shoe on eBay -- an adorable pair of white satin Kenneth Coles, brand new for only $16.50, including shipping.

I totally agree... finding the perfect pair of shoes can be quite a challenge sometimes. And Zappos never disappoint me. I can always find a great pair of shoes or sandals on there... plus FREE shipping. How can you beat that?

I found mine on myglassslipper.com. I wanted a white shoe with a wedge heel since we are getting married outside. They were impossible to find! I don't like Colorifics because they are as cheap as they are uncomfortable. So I finally found some by Something Bleu which used to be Nanette Lepore Shoes. They are beautiful and fashionable. After the wedding i am going to dye them black.

Hi,

I actually found my wedding shoes at the Brides Noir Magazine Bridal Show where I won my bridal gown and shoes, along w/a long list of other goodies.

A Martha-Stewart-Junior friend of mine & I designed my dress (she was the sole seamstress), patterned along Sleeping Beauty/ Cinderella lines. My feet are small, but wide, so I needed a shoe that not only looked the part, but fit comfortably as well. I chose a Danskin ballet slipper that had ribbon ties around the ankle. I picked classic white, although they had several appropriate colors & it could also have been died to match. They looked beautiful & my feet sailed through the day!

I found mine at David's Bridal. I bought the Marissa shoes and I love them so far.

I found my wedding shoes at Target.com on sale for $20!! Isaac Mizrahi has a whole line of wedding shoes for Target and they are adorable and affordable (my 2 favorite A words).

Since I am taller than my fiancee already, heels are out for me. And I have ugly feet, so I didn't want any sandal or open toe of any kind. I went with a simple ballet shoe design from david's bridal. I don't think the shoes are too important, because more than likely you won't be able to see them for the dress.
