Every bride's worst nightmare. Well, that, and the groom standing you up, your dress not fitting, rain at an outdoor wedding and the ring bearer and flower girl getting into an all-out brawl. As I'm very under-the-weather today (sniffy, sneezy, fatigue, headache, you name it) I'm reminded of this fear. I just found some good tips on My Wedding Favors Blog that if an unavoidable illness happens, what you can do: "Red or puffy eyes–Get two small baggies and put a few ice cubes in them. Cover them with two fluffy washcloths and lay them over your eyes for 10 minutes. This will brighten your eyes up and reduce the puffiness by constricting the blood vessels. Red face–Apply a creamy bronzer. It counteracts the pinkness. Sore Throat–This tip comes from opera singers. Anything warm (not too hot!) and thin (like tea or broth) is good for relaxing the throat. You can add some things to your “hot water infusion” to increase the healing power like honey, lemon, ginger, cayenne pepper or licorice. If you’re a smoker–DON’T! She has a few more tips for slightly more gruesome scenarios -- read on if you dare. Me, I'm going back to bed with a giant box o' Kleenex. Thank god it's not my wedding day. br> br> --Margit Detweiler
Posted by: Melissa| March 19, 2008 at 01:10 PM I was disgustingly sick on my wedding day, and missed most of my reception because I was sitting, veil in hand, on the floor of a stall in the ladies' powder room. It makes me so sad to this day to think of how much I missed - but at least I rallied for our 6am flight to British Columbia the next morning! I just want to say that I am disappointed with this blog. I would expect more original and fun ideas from Real Simple. The posts here are few and far between, don't really say anything new and feel somehow thrown together. PLEASE post with a bit more love and attention. Hi Michelle, I really like this blog. It's fun, and I enjoy reading the posts. Hi Margit, Thanks for your reply. I hope you are feeling better and look forward to reading more in the future. All the best to you! Michelle I was sick and I ran to my ear nose throat guy - he literally vacuumed my sinuses out. It was uncomfortable while he did it but I felt SO much better immediately afterwards. The effects don't last all day, but you WILL feel better. I broke out with a rash on my throat two days before my wedding. Everyone agreed that it was just nerves and the flush would go away. Well, I woke up at 6am on my wedding day with a red, prickly, heart shaped rash on my throat and collarbone! I had stayed at my parents house the night before and spent most of the morning crying as my mother tried to get a hold of someone at my doctors office on a Saturday morning. When she did, she explained that it was my wedding day and I needed something, anything, to counteract the redness. The nurse on-call wasn't helpful and the doctor she "paged" never called us back. I took 4 benedryl that morning and sat while I had my hair done with an ice pack on my neck. Luckily, I didn't pass out from the benedryl, and the ice pack and some makeup managed to hide the rash. We joke now that my great-aunt and grandmother, who both passed away years ago, both traditional Italian women, were cursing me from beyond for living with my fiance before we were married. The rash was heart shaped, after all! |
