Cherry. Carrot. Mint. No, wait maybe Carrot. Argh. Sure, marriage is about love, but weddings are really about many, many mini decisions. Today's decision is all about the color of the bridesmaid dresses (and it won't be dusty rose). As noted in an earlier post, my sister, matron-o-honor extraordinaire, is in charge of this particular task. There's also the shape to consider -- boatneck, v-neck or scoopneck; floor-length or tea. And what shoes? Guh. My sister spent time scouring the web and came up with a few interesting dress leads: She sent this chic blue number from Simple Silhouettes; and this versatile two-piecer. And then she sent one from a dress shop called LulaKate Bridal in Charleston, SC. "I like these the best," She wrote. Luckily, I did too. And as fate would have it, our dad, who occasionally travels to Charleston on business, happened to be going in a...

This morning I gave my fiance these scrumptious dark chocolate marshmallow candies (he shared of course, diet be damned) and a handmade card and we're making dinner together tonight. So I'm attempting to shed some pre-wedding weight. My goal isn't to drive myself crazy with a huge weight loss goal, but to at least slim down and shape up enough to sparkle. Hey, 15 and I'll be thrilled. I started on the South Beach Diet which worked for about two weeks. But as soon as I introduced "some (empahsis on "some") wholegrain breads" in Phase 2, I was, ahem, toast. Bring on the baguettes. I'm signing up for Weight Watchers next week. Fitness-wise, I've signed up for a beginner's Broadway dance class once a week. I've rejoined my gym. And I've signed up with a Pilates trainer who happens to be planning for her own wedding this summer. So far, Pilates is the one thing I've been able to stick to, and a lot of it has to do with the trainer. Making the appointment forces me to go...

The perfect wedding cake doesn't have always to be butter-cream and five-tiered. For my wedding I've decided to forgo the traditional route and serve cupcakes — chocolate, vanilla and maybe peanut butter and jelly cupcakes (the groom and I sampled some here and we've been dreaming of them ever since). In fact, your cake doesn't have to be real at all. That's right, you could rent your cake, made of foam and fondant. Here's one place, www.cakerental.com, and their story: "We provide a service, where you can rent the beautifully designed centerpiece wedding cake. The main cake is covered with real fondant with the looks and feel of a real cake in every aspect, however the inside is made of foam and there is small compartment to place a small portion of edible cake for the ceremony (design of the cake and the special shipping container have " Patent Pending...
