Easy steps to going green with GreenCupboards
Posted on Feb 4, 2009 1:44:00 PM  |  By KristinAppenbrink

I got an email about GreenCupboards a while ago, but hadn't had a chance to check it out until just recently. The site sells eco-friendly cleaning supplies that have been tested and rated by their staff, very helpful to know you're going to get a product that works. And on top of that they offer the option to buy a "cupboard" full of products.

Right now on the site you can purchase one of three cupboards: kitchen, bath or laundry. Each cupboard is stocked with everything you could possibly need to clean the intended room. While you can also buy individual products, I love the cupboard idea because it enables you to make the switch to going green in one fell swoop. And they are priced pretty reasonably as well, considering most of those eco-cleaners are pricey. I did the math on the bathroom cupboard to see how much you can save.

Bathroom Cupboard:

Air Scense Vanilla Air Freshener                          $7.46
Drainbo Natural Drain Cleaner                            $9.95
Seaside Naturals Glass Cleaner                           $4.46 (approximate)
Citrus Magic Hand Wash                                      $4.95
Attitude Bathroom Mold and Mildew Remover      $3.65 (approximate)
Twist European Sponge Cloth                              $3.48
Mrs. Meyer's Surface Scrub                                 $5.49
Method Lil' bowl blu toilet cleaner                     $6.00
Options for Life Tub and Tile Cleaner                 $5.99

                                                        Total        $51.43

On GreenCupboards you'll pay $46.99, and only one shipping charge. So you'll save $4.44 plush shipping. Not enough to write home about, but still every little bit adds up.

Have you gone green with your cleaning supplies? Will this make it easier for you to make the switch? Would you consider shopping at GreenCupboards?

Good lord people! If you want to save money and be environmentally responsible in your cleaning buy a big jug of vinegar and mega-bag of baking soda at Costco. Total cost is probably $10. Search for 'cleaning with baking soda or vinegar' online. Much healthier, much more natural!

I also like vinegar and water. Mrs. Meyers smells great though!

3 things to buy: Baking soda, vinegar, ammonia
Add water & elbow grease
Cheap & eco friendly

I don't know that I would say vinegar is "much healthier, much more natural".

These green cleaning products are made with only natural ingredients like essential oils, enzymes, etc. No preservatives or the like (I looked it up). Maybe vinegar is CHEAPER, but me personally I'd rather buy a couple of useful household cleaners that have already been concocted for me and save the time!
