Super Bowl XLIII: How Will You Party?
Posted on Jan 28, 2009 6:38:00 AM  |  By HollyBecker

Super_bowl_party_recipes_2_2 I'll use ANY excuse I can to throw a party because I love to hang out with my friends at home. With February 1st right around the corner, will you host a Super Bowl XLIII party?

In '03 I had THE Super Bowl party that my friends still talk about to this day - forty people came over, each with a crock pot, casserole dish, tray, something big and homemade in hand. We had a buffet set up in my U shaped kitchen downstairs (back then I lived in a 2,500 square foot converted barn with two floors) and upstairs we all crammed around my 36" television in the family room and cheered and ate and drank and ate and ate and ate! It was the best!

My home is a lot smaller now since we downsized to around 1,000 square feet so we don't plan to repeat such a large Super Bowl party anytime soon but you can take it from a girl who has hosted at least 15 SB parties in the past: Few will remember what you decorated with, how spotless your home was, the cute handmade football invitations...they may not even remember who won the game but I do promise this: they will remember the food! With that in mind, if you host a party this Sunday spend the most time preparing those cocktail wieners and that seven layer dip because outside of the game and commercials, guests love to eat!

Will you host Super Bowl XLIII? Do you have a 'house' dish that you serve? Any good recipes to share (or link to)? Do you decorate? How many people do you plan to have over? What do you love more, the game or the half time show and commercials?

We are hosting a party for the big game (did you know that the NFL does not allow you to call your parties/get togethers "Super Bowl" parties?...they can & have fined people). Just a small group of 8. And yes we do love to eat eat and eat some more! Food is always a staple at any of our get togethers.
The menu will be lots of snacks/appetizers which will consist of:
- Cheese & Cracker Platter: Cracker Barrel Sharp Cheddar, Swiss, Ritz Crackers & Triscuit
- Veggie Platter: fresh broccoli, red/green peppers, carrots, celery, cherry tomatoes w/T. Marzetti Veggie Ranch Dip
- Chips & more dips!
Main entree will be Red Osier Roast Beef Sandwiches that will be kept warm in the crock pot.
For dessert I'm making chocolate dipped fruits(strawberries, pineapples, banana, etc) and what I call crispy clusters( milk way, chocolate squares and cornflakes mixed together. sounds weird but makes a great finger dessert! recipe found here: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/nigella-lawson/chocolate-caramel-crispy-cakes-recipe/index.html)
And of course beer! =P

Nope I won't be going to a party this year, I can never attend a party when my team is playing. I feel bad for ignoring my friends to watch the game and I get loud and can interrupt other people's fun. All the friends that I live close to are not fans of my team so they will be more interested in socializing and there is nothing wrong with that unless you are the one person interested and involved in the game. Anytime my team is not involved I am all about the party .

You absolutely must make Skyline Chili Dip. If your grocery store does not have canned or frozen Skyline, you can order it online.
