Did anyone get new electronics for the holidays? I'm guessing that quite a few people will be saying yes. So now you have old electronics just sitting around It's time to think about recycling them—instead of just kicking them to the curb. Here are two websites where you can get rid of those electronics responsibly.

Electronics TakeBack Coalition

This website is focused on making the manufacture and disposal of electronics healthier for the workers, connsumers, and environment. You can read all about their programs on their website. And you can view or download a PDF of information on all the major electronics companies and their recycling programs put together by the Electronics TakeBack Coalition here.

Gazelle

Gazelle is another way to get rid of your used electronics, and you can make some money using this method. All you have to do is search their website for the electronics you want to get rid of (old cell phones, MP3 players, and other small devices) and they will give you the current price they are offering for it. If the price is agreeable to you Gazelle will send you a box to mail in your electronics and send you a check after they have verified everything in the box. You can watch a video tutorial here.

Does anyone else have suggestions for what to do with your old electronics?

My DH and I called our church to see if they wanted our HP printer, we had gotten a new all in one scanner, printer, copier. They gladly accepted it, and it saved us the $20 fee that Staples wanted to recycle it. So if you are involved in a non profit you could ask them if they want it.

Check with your city's recycling programs! The Los Angeles Sanitation department has drop off centers where you can take all your old televisions, radios, small appliances, computers, batteries, and various other items. Rather than holding onto it thinking you'll fix/use it someday and it cluttering up your house, recycle!
