I am constantly amazed at the forever growing trend of customization. Nowadays we can create our very own one-of-a-kind items that will set us apart from the rest of the world, and who can blame us? No one wants to be the copycat. That is why I am so in love with my latest discovery. It is a website called Spoonflower.com, it is by far one of the coolest and most original ideas that I've seen this year.
The concept is customized textiles that anyone can design and print onto cotton fabric. Any image, design or photograph can be turned into bundles of one-of a-kind fabric. The process is painless-- all you do is scan or upload an image and it the fabric masters on the other end will transfer the image into a tile format onto Kona cotton.
The FAQ section of the site offers suggestions on how to create an image/pattern and how to repeat an image or pattern if you desire a busier fabric. What's great about this site is that literally anything that can become a pattern, even regular photographs.
Once you upload the image the file is transfered on the fabric. You can order a swatches of your design for $5, or loads of it for $18/yard. Individual designs can be kept private or shared with the Spoonflower community, it's up to you.
I am so excited about the idea of using Spoonflower to create custom fabric. It certainly will spare me hours spent wandering around fabric stores, never exactly sure of what I want.My mind is spinning right now thinking about all of the original and custom upholstery, curtains, and clothing that I can create through Spoonflower.
What would you do with your personalized custom fabric?
hi Nykia, i think that i would definitely make a fitted tee, that's the first thing that came to mind after hearing about this custom designing. or a handbag, personalizing to my own liking. it's a great way to be unique and outstanding in a creative fashion. i would probably put a fresh President Obama picture on my purse to express delight for the country's recent victory on Nov. 4. -iva
