I've been experimenting a lot lately with nature and travel photography, using Photoshop to give to my work the story that I see in my mind as I take the photo. On Flickr, where I upload my photos and share them with others, I have many contacts that range from the amateur photographer (like me!) to the more experienced and absolute advanced -- those who create such mind blowing photos that one can only dream of joining their league someday. br> br> I'm the type of hobby photographer who is absolutely content with being a beginner, I'm not at all ashamed, and I find inspiration by peeking in on work that is far better than my own because it gives me motivation to keep making progress. Shanon Gass is a lady that I absolutely adore on so many levels. Her photos on Flickr are so lovely as she really knows how to capture light and emotion, her spirit is warm and inviting (just like her photos), and she genuinely loves photography. br> Shanon has an etsy shop where she recently stocked 4 x 4 mini photos, the small square format is great because one can build a small collection to tell a story as you can see above in this framed example.Perhaps 3 or 4 in a row above a table, one image playing off of the next... br> Photography is one of the most beautiful ways to dress up walls and yet I visit so many homes and find only run-of-the-mill framed works from big box stores and wonder why more aren't buying frames from stores like IKEA (so cheap!) and filling them with their own photos or of those from talented photographs like Shanon Gass. You will pay $50 + for framed big box generic 'art' and half that if you just buy the photograph from someone like Shanon and frame it yourself. Save money and be original? Sign me up! br> br> br> br> br> Do you take photos? If so, what do you like to photograph? Do you have a Flickr account showing your work? If so, please share it with me by commenting below. I will eventually have to write a post about my favorite Flickr photographers or something to share a handful of them. I am fond of so many... br> (images from shanon gass designs) br>
Posted by: Allison | October 22, 2008 at 08:28 AM I am so envious of anyone that can take good pictures! It is one of many things that I wish I could improve on. Maybe a class this winter when the snow is blowing and I am wishing to get out! I am so envious of anyone that can take good pictures! It is one of many things that I wish I could improve on. Maybe a class this winter when the snow is blowing and I am wishing to get out! i think i'm a perpetual beginner photographer myself. i like to take quiet pictures...or scenes from everyday life. i think a lot of people who buy pictures from big box stores really just don't know about sites like etsy. i know some photographers have had luck on there, but i didn't myself...though i'm not very good at advertising. :) my flickr account is here: http://flickr.com/photos/nathair/ I *love* taking photographs! I don't really have a preferred subject and I can't really define my "style", but I enjoy shooting animals, flowers, architectural details, sports, festivals. I'm drawn to bright colors and zooming in on details. You can see my photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sulla55 I'm here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nareshe/ I tend to take a lot of portraits...there's a lot of my life mixed in there with my photostream, but most of my favorite photos are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nareshe/sets/72157603846153460/ You can check out my flickr photos here: Thank you so much Holly! I'm inspired by you in countless ways, so I'm honored that you would list my work here. Thank you! She has some really beautiful work. I'll have to add her to my flickr. There are so many amazing artists on there. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mkendall/ I wish she mentioned on her flickr what type of camera she used- if it was medium format or if she just edited them to make them square. I'm a photo student at Otis College of Art & Design and I have a Flickr. http://flickr.com/photos/hydroplaning/ Kristine, these photos were cropped square in Photoshop. I'm completely in love with photography. I take pictures every day - mostly of my two kids, but many of my favorites are of nature. Thanks for all you do! http://www.flickr.com/photos/jsliedtke/ Shanon's photographs are so lovely. The light is just beautiful. I've been taking photos for a long time, but I still feel like I have so much to learn. I'm inspired by all of the great photographers on Flickr, Etsy, etc. With photography, the possibilities are endless. I like to capture the simple splendor in life that most people find ordinary. You can view my flickr here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/26292666@N06/ I love photography (and adore flickr) and have a preference for photographing architecture with a focus on geometrics and color, with a bit of the abstract thrown in: I take photos of lil' things and people things too. :) I have probably a zillion more photos of things I've taken but not uploaded to flikr. Always going somewhere with a camera---capturing moments to share our lovemoments with others. http://www.flickr.com/photos/love-christine/sets/72157606524241855/ |
