Got kids? Multiple children sharing a room? Here's an idea... When it comes to maximizing a small space designers always say to look up and use as much wall space as you can. With school season in full swing, I thought I'd direct you over to Tiramolla Loft bedrooms by Italian company Tumidei because they have some clever rooms you may want to check out. I found them over on oddedoh and was impressed by the spaces... no doubt you will be too. You can completely customize your loft bedroom selecting from an array of colors and finishes -- right down to hardware and wall (or furniture) decals. This is a brilliant idea and though I see this set up geared more towards young people (ideal for kids sharing rooms), I still think the concept is super. I imagine it being a great use of space for couples who share a workspace (like my husband and I do). Of course, you'll need somewhat high ceilings to work with...but if you live in most European countries or a fancy loft in the states, you may not have a problem. I find most apartments in Germany (where I'm currently based) are almost made to accommodate rooms like the ones shown here, high ceilings are 'normal' in most of the apartments I've seen here. Perhaps Italy is the same way which is what inspired the Tiramolla loft? Hmmm. It's important to note that Tumidei designs a complete line of furniture - tables, chairs, shelving, even extremely cool rooms with a streamlined take on bunk beds and very sleek entertainment centers and bedroom furniture for adult spaces. Not just sexy furniture for kids!
What do you think? How much would you pay for a room like those shown above? Do you think this is a good use of a small space? Does anyone know how much a room set up like this costs? (images from ohdeedoh via tumidei)
Posted by: Sarah| September 29, 2008 at 03:44 PM As a kid, I would have loved, loved, loved this furniture. I could only dream of a bunk bed. Reminds me of camping... and fort building... but as an adult, I can only assume that boys and girls would kill themselves on these things. John aka OrganizingLA What a great idea. Kids would love this as well, they'd find it pretty cool What a great idea! I agree the room set ups are great not only for children! A great way to maximazie space! I have never seen rooms like this before... very chic and wonderfully practical and organized! Love them! Do not have an idea how much this costs, but would love to get pricing info! Tres chic! if u could let me no on the prcies i would really love that, i have searched for so long and cant find any prices i can just imagine how much buissness tumidei is losing form not having viable prices anywhere to be seen |

I was just in Sicily for 2 weeks and can attest to the need for these kind of units for kids rooms. The homes I saw were small in footprint though generally with high ceilings and with multiple kids sharing a room these space saving units are invaluable. I did pick up an Italian home decor magazine that actually had a feature on these. I will post again when I get a chance to look up the prices.
I actually think they're brilliant and since my two kids share a room, might be something to consider in the near future. If only someone made and sold them in this country.
