I don't have children but for those of you who do consider yourself very lucky to have access to so many great resources for good design! Years ago children's rooms and nurseries were so blah I think... mostly revolving around cartoon characters or motifs like balloons or clowns. Nowadays, you can create a charming kid's room that not only coordinates with the design in the rest of your home, but introduces your child to color and pattern at an early age -- color and pattern that has nothing to do with what the local Baby superstore is trying to push on you with all of their pop themes and characters. While I'm certainly not against a themed kid's room (as a parent you have the right to do whatever you want so have fun!), it's nice for those who aren't into the look to have alternatives. I was recently cruising the web and came across this fab mommy blog called Project Nursery. I seriously suggest that you check it out. Also don't miss their blogroll so you can link to other great blogs for parents that focus on good design for junior. Project Nursery blogged about a bedding company called Rikshaw Design and I fell in love with their fabrics for baby. I also love their inspiring photography, their bohemian prints and patterns with tons of ethnic influence is 100% my style and how I would decorate my baby nursery if I had a baby of course! The designer and owner is Catherine Fitzsimmons who was once a textile designer for Pottery Barn and Ralph Lauren. I was excited when I saw the collage art of Michelle Caplan appearing over the crib in this photo, it's called Allie. This is my absolute favorite work of hers so my heart skipped a beat as Michelle just-so-happens to be a good friend of mine as well. If you'd like to see more of Michelle's work, visit her blog or her Etsy shop. She's truly amazing. Yay for stylish baby rooms! It's so refreshing to see hand blocked prints in the nursery and excited to have more wonderful options for the baby's room. (images from michelle caplan, project nursery, and rikshaw design)
