Housewarming Gift Idea: Mixtape USB Stick
Posted on Jul 14, 2008 7:45:14 AM  |  By HollyBecker

Have a friend who just purchased a first home? Looking for a great housewarming present? If your pal was a tween or teen in the 1980s/early 90s you can be sure they'll love this gift. Don't worry, I'm not about to suggest leg warmers, a Gremlins DVD, or a gift certificate to a breakdancing class. Have you heard of the Mixtape 64MB USB Memory Stick?   515k4ynkjul_sl500_

There's nothing like lighting the candles, cooking up something delicious, placing fresh flowers around the house, and popping in your favorite tunes just before your guests arrive. I rarely talk about music on this blog but it is a huge part of my life. I'm such a fan and fill my home with it daily so naturally I love to give the gift of good music to friends when I have the chance. Back in the 80s, a good mixtape was all you needed to show love and friendship. Nothing defines the 1980's quite like it in my opinion.

This is precisely why I was quite psyched to read about the Mixtape 64MB USB Memory Stick. The one I spotted is currently available at Target. It stores 60 minutes of tunes and is brilliantly packaged inside of an old-school cassette tape, all for only $19.99.

How fun and original for a housewarming gift, don't you agree? What do you like to give for housewarming presents?

Great idea! I think anything that has a bit of your soul in it is a great gift! For housewarmings, I like to give a tree or garden plant (if the person likes to garden), and then they have a living thing from me as a memory.

I don't understand how this is different from a regular usb drive. basically, it is packaged in a fake cassette tape. wouldn't it be more generous to load mp3s onto a usb stick that held more memory, then the recipient would be able to use it to store other data after loading the music onto her computer. i think this seems too much like a gimmick...

This is definitely all about the packaging! And how clever it is! I'd personally love to receive one of these... it would certainly top my list of favorite gifts to receive!

Thanks for sharing sweetie!

I've recently been invited to several housewarming parties and I stumbled upon the gift of music - it's perfect to fill up a new home! You don't even need to know what kind of music the proud new homeowners like - just pick something mellow that goes with twilight and wine. One of my favorites is Anna Nalick's "Shine" EP (singles are the perfect price for gifts!) but a mix USB would be great for the more techno-savvy. Thanks for the idea!
