Do areas of your home desperately need updating? This week I plan to reveal tips on how to spruce up your space without going broke with a few simple updates. First up, the bathroom. Not just a place to shower and shave, it should calm and be a place of retreat, your very own home spa. How do you create a beautiful space on a budget?
Have you updated your bathroom on a budget lately? What did you do? (image from west elm)
Posted by: TSS| May 12, 2008 at 01:21 PM Love all the ideas! If you get stuck on picking out a new wall color- stay neutral and then accessorize everything in neutral tones. Concentrate on different textures: wicker, teak bath mat, fluffy pillows and create a soothing spa experience! I agree with Holly- get rid of the clutter and personal items! Holly, you have totally inspired me to go do that yearly purge of 90% empty lotions and potions from my bathroom drawers. It's at that ridiculous point, as are the nooks and crannies that seem to attract what surely must be half the hairs from my head. Regarding reading material, while I don't want to see a stack of porn or even People magazines in someone's bathroom, I like to leave a stack of funny books in my guest bath on a stool next to the tub, like Loni Anderson's "My Life in High Heels," Barbara Walters' "How to Talk to Anyone about Practically Anything," Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People," and "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days." I think that is great advice. It has me thinking about one sink fixture I want to change out. Becky - YAY! I'm happy to know you've been inspired. :) I love this picture with the orange accessories! Where is that shower curtain from??? Thanks! I am just in the process of updating my bathroom decor actually, and here is my plan: For starters, my bathroom is fully tiled in white, with a beige/apricot border (which I hate, but can't do much about), and sand coloured tiles on the floor. So I'm going to try for a natural, spa like style with lots of white, brown and green. * A see-through (because my window is over the tub and I want the light to be able to shine through it) shower curtain with a tree or leaf pattern * Towels in dark grass green, dark brown and white (we use a lot of towels, so there is going to be like 15-20 towels in the bathroom) * A high, narrow shelf in dark wood, probably this from Ikea: http://www.ikea.com/se/sv/catalog/products/70049687 * On the shelf all of my cleaning products, the kid's bath toys, extra bottles of shampoo, toilet rolls etc will be stored in square white woven plastic boxes with lids. * A wooden bath rack (or what do you call the tray you put across the tub?) like this: * Green bath mat * Moroccan silver plate or wooden tray on the floor with round stones, incense and white pillar candles What do you think, does it sound like a place you'd like? Anything I'm missing? Amanda - the shower curtain is from West Elm - Here is the link. Holly, this list is great inspiration to update the bathroom. That is very importance to estimate the budget. We recently made a few changes to our bathroom. I simplified like you said and cleaned out the clutter. Then we repainted the bathroom a soft robin’s egg blue, very, very pale tone. Then we added all white and clear accessories. The most I spent was on some really nice towels we ordered with our initials embossed on them. You can see them at http://www.elegantlinenspc.com/towelssc.htm I really like the overall elegant look the addition of the nice towels made. So with just a few changes we have a brand new bathroom What a great post -- super info, super images. I recently featured a list of top bath products -- all for less than $150 -- that your readers might also enjoy: http://jgkitchens.blogspot.com/2009/04/style-list-1-150-max-bathroom-edition.html Next week I'll be doing a $150 Max kitchen edition! |

Using containers and bins in the bathroom and other areas is a great, clean and efficient way to organize smaller items. I like the idea of purchasing accessories to spice up an area too.
