Affordable Art Round-up For Kids

It's Friday, who wants to read with a holiday weekend here? So I'll make this post image heavy and text light, how's that sound? Eye candy here we come! But of course, I have to give you a little intro so here goes...

Real_simple_castle

Littlest Flower: King of Castle $10

I could go on and on about affordable art (mostly prints) maybe even devote an entire blog to it (or book) because I'd never run out of content. It's a sickness, my design crack. If I showed you the plastic bin in my work studio filled with prints I've purchased over the years from artists I follow, you'd call me a total junkie. I need prints because I have to live around things that visually stimulate me. And when I have children, I will follow my own advice here and decorate their rooms with lovely art prints at least until they are old enough to tell me that the giraffes have to go because the Transformers or babes in bikinis are going up. While I can control what's on the walls, I'll no doubt be shopping at some of these fine stores below. Then again, I've already shopped at many of these stores so I'm living proof that some of these aren't just for the tots. If you click around the links below, you will no doubt find more grown up friendly designs by the many artists featured here.

So enough talking, let's look at some art!

My youngest daughter collects art on etsy and you have left out four of her favorite artists. They are ashley goldberg, matte stephens , lisa congdon and elsita mora. And although all these artists make and sell very affordable prints she likes to ask for original works of art for special occasions like her birthday or christmas. She is awaiting her original commissioned matte stephens piece which was a very special birthday gift. It is never too young to start to collect art and who knows she might have a very valuable collection when she is older. I bought my first original painting when I was a teenager with money from my first part time job. It still hangs in my home and I will always treasure it.

Matte Stephens is included as Matte Art.

Thanks for all of the great artists that I might not have found as my time on etsy is limited! Great choices.

Posted by: Sam and Olive Love | March 21, 2008 at 08:58 AM

wonderful feature!

Posted by: Jessica Hood | March 21, 2008 at 10:19 AM

Gorgeous choices, almost makes me wish I had children! :-) I love when people share Etsy artists I haven't seen yet.

annejulie is another wonderful children's artist - http://annejulie.etsy.com - though some of her work is meant more for adults

Posted by: Diana | March 21, 2008 at 10:29 AM

Sorry, I apologize now I see the picture of weather Vivianne by Matte Stephens. I wrote my comment before sunrise and I guess I missed that one.

Posted by: Margaret Oomen | March 21, 2008 at 11:31 AM

Margaret - How exciting that she requests originals and understands their value. You have a special little girl there. :) I own work from Ashley and have featured the ladies you've mentioned before either on decor8 or for Domino so I agree with you, terrific artists. I tried hard to remember and include as many as I could but I had to stop at 60. I'll make a note to include them in future. Matte is included in the round up above maybe you missed him.

Have a great weekend everyone!

What a sweet array of art! Thank you so much!

Posted by: jenn desjardins | March 21, 2008 at 04:03 PM

wow...I love your collection! I am flattered to be a part of it! THank you for introducing me to some great artists....a lot of new ones here I am so excited to see!

Posted by: sarah Jane | March 21, 2008 at 04:05 PM

I'm happy to see that you all have enjoyed this round up. When I hit 60 artists I thought that perhaps it was time to stop because I didn't want to overwhelm readers! Now seeing that you all liked it, I'll have to do another round up in the future showing my favorite art or what I own in my home and how I display.

Also if ANYONE has art that they've purchased from sites like Etsy or Dawanda, please send me photos of how you're displaying your art as I'd like to use this as a future post. You can email me at hollybecker AT gmail DOT com.

Posted by: hollybecker | March 21, 2008 at 06:25 PM

Wow -- this is a gorgeous round-up of children's art, and I am thrilled to be included! And, as I am expecting a baby boy in July, I'm even more thrilled to find so many wonderful artists here to decorate our new nursery!! When I finally get my collection together, I will certainly e-mail the display to you, too, Holly!

Posted by: Cathy Nichols | March 22, 2008 at 09:55 AM

Thanks for the list! I just made a purchase (etsy is dangerous and FUN).

Posted by: Paper Dolls for Boys (Tracey) | March 24, 2008 at 03:19 AM

Tracey you're not kidding, it's very dangerous. Just this weekend, I splurged on some jewelry from an etsy seller in London but something about buying handmade directly from the artist makes me feel less guilty. :)

Posted by: hollybecker | March 24, 2008 at 12:41 PM

It's brilliant to see these wonderful artists being showcased.
Eye candy indeed!

These prints are great. However, I've really been looking for larger format prints. I realize this is way more difficult for artists to print, but would love to hear info about finding poster size prints. All I know about are mainstream posters, or canvas fine art. Is there any middle ground?

Posted by: Amy Laybourn | March 26, 2008 at 01:55 AM

jukejointjumpin.etsy.com

Lots of handmade vintage-inspired jewelry, but several framed children's art, as well as some decoupaged suitcases and boxes (done with re-purposed children's books).

Posted by: Stephanie | March 26, 2008 at 02:20 AM

Amy you ask a good question. Yes there are larger format prints available on etsy and elsewhere. I can think of a few artists off the top of my head who I either own work from or who are just really good and make larger - nearly poster sized, prints.

Strawberry Luna http://www.strawberryluna.etsy.com

Steven Harrington http://www.stevenharrington.com

Samantha Hahn http://www.samanthahahn.com/

Marisa Haedike (just a few but she may do more if you ask her) http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5071031§ion_id=5156675

Julia Rothman http://juliarothman.com/

Alicia Bock Photography http://www.aliciabock.com/

Even gig posters are fun colorful options: http://www.gigposters.com/

And just a side tip. If you find an artist on etsy that you really like, ask them if they can make their work available to you in a larger format. Many that can, will!

Best,
Holly

So happy to see you feature Pez prints by Sandy Mac...original Pez paintings by Sandra MacDonald, I own one and my children and I love the whimsy!! The artists featured are all terrific, even if you don't have kids!

Posted by: JUDY HAGUE | March 27, 2008 at 07:31 PM

Thank you so much Holly for including me on this incredible list! There are so many fun artist here.

Posted by: Lisa Golightly | March 28, 2008 at 02:16 PM

Wow, wow, wow! It is an honor to have my Kingdom of Imagination map included in such a terrific list. Many, many thanks.

Enjoyed viewing the pieces you choose. I love fresh looking art. I try to capture that same spirit in my own pieces!

It is a gift to last a lifetime - a signed piece of original art designed especially for your little one. Painted on 16 x 20 canvas, these fairytale paintings feature princesses dancing in fields of flowers and brave princes astride dragons, deep sea divers, athletes, etc. Paintings are designed specifically for your little one and are personalized with a magic wand ,crown complete with birthstone and child’s name with caption. Each painting is signed and dated by the artist.
To see samples, go to www.happyheartprincess.com and click on Fairytale Kids.
