The Do's and Don'ts of Sandwich Bags

To_content Do: Splurge on cute designs.

It makes even a boring turkey sandwich seem exciting. I love the fun Mobi bags (they even just launched a collection with Todd Oldham, shown left). But you also need to check out this anti-theft bag design I found via LifeHacker.com. It has an artfully placed green-splotch design intended to ward off office mates and grammar school bullies with sticky fingers. Before you say, what a waste...

Do: Wash your bags.

I stick mine in the dishwasher and re-use until there's a tear in the side or if something unappetizing was in the bag. Admittedly, if you don't prop them up right in the dishwasher, you end up with a bag full of water. If this really concerns you, buy the Bag-E-Wash which holds the bags upright to allow maximize sterilization.

Do: Re-use your bags in clever ways.

Always on the hunt for new uses, here are some ideas from the Real Simple vault: use a sandwich bag to refill a pepper grinder, organize jewelry, and store beauty products.

Do: Use them for portion control.

I usually buy a big bag of trail mix or other nut mixes at Costco, and then fill up a small baggie to take to work with me every day. If I had that whole big bag at my desk, I would probably mindlessly munch on it the whole day.

Well, I don't really have any "Don'ts" per say...but let me know if you do! Or if you have any other ideas to add to this list.

Instead of using plastic bags, I've switched to Wrap-N-Mat for sandwiches. The are reusable sandwich bags that unfold into a placemat to eat your lunch on. I love them! http://www.reusablebags.com/store/wrapnmat-p-2.html

ikea sells some great bags that have color and design on them. they are super strong and sturdy and perfect for re-using to cut down waste.

I never knew you could re-use baggies. Well, I guess I knew but never actually did it.

Thanks for the tip!
