Real Life Parties
When Life Hands You Lemons...

With all the doom-and-gloom going on in our current economic climate, you can imagine how delighted and amused I was to come home last night to the following invitation in my mailbox:

A friend of mine found out recently that she is being laid off, and I can't help but applaud her reaction to the whole situation. In addition to handling herself with grace, dignity, and an I-will-bounce-back attitude, she has found a reason to "celebrate" even amidst one of life's cruelest moments. Hosting an "oh sh*t!" dinner party is a good reminder that, especially in tough times, it's important to surround yourself with good friends, good food, and a sense of humor.

And in case you are wondering, these hilarious cards are available here, along with other unique stationary items.

I'm curious: has anyone else ever attended an "I'm Fired" Fete?

I have not, but considering it's becoming "all the rage" to get fired these days, I hope others are able to handle the situation with as much positive attitude and humor as your friend. Plus, those are the funnest cards I've ever seen! I might just throw a party just so I can send them out!

I have not been laid off but my coworkers and I have been through a bunch of "oh sh*t" kinds of receptions in honor of ex cohorts. It was important to us to celebrate them and remind them that leaving was NOT the end-- of a career or their lives.
