The height that cake stands (or pedestal servers) provide make them wonderful tools for creating pretty food displays for everything from appetizers to desserts. I've highlighted a few cool, ready-made cake stands below, but here's a tip if you just want to create your own stands using dishes that you already own... Flip a small bowl upside down to act as the "pedestal", and simply place a plate on top of the bowl. For extra security, use a few very small dabs of hot glue to hold the 2 pieces together. Hot glue will peel off ceramic and glass dishes, so you don't have to worry about ruining them, but make sure not to use too much glue, or else the dishes can be difficult to pull apart. Less is definitely more in this case - or you can also use simple craft putty as your binding element if you'd prefer not to use hot glue. Here goes with the five fabulous ready-made cake stand finds: 1. Birthday Party Cake Stand - Green 2. Anna Kraitz DESERVE Cake Stand 3. Whiteware Cake Stands 4. Bimboveloce Cake Stand by Stephano Giovannoni for Alessi 5. Grace Footed Platter *** Please let us know if you know of additional fabulous cake stands that other readers might love too!
Posted by: Heather C.| October 03, 2008 at 12:25 PM I absolutely love love love cake stands. These are so pretty! The footed platter is awesome, may need to be added to my collection. The above link is about DIY cake stands. This post was incredibly popular with my readers and I've had people send me their own versions ever since! I follow up post regarding this idea is coming up this week as well. Cheers! I'm so glad I stumbled on this blog! I've been looking for the perfect cake stand and haven't been able to find one that I just love, but this gives me lots of ideas. Thanks! They look really nice. Any chance you would know where I could find a light blue cake stand, foot and plate? Many thanks. Hi Bea - For the cake stand, there's a great aqua cake stand over at The Bees Knees etsy shop right now: ... and I've also seen some pretty light blue stoneware at Crate and Barrel - but it's a duo-tone stone/blue. You could create a stand using a 10" dinner plate and upside down bowl though: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=40&f=6503 I don't know of any more off the top of my head, but I will definitely post it here if anything comes up! Light blue is often used for winter-themed holiday entertaining, so hopefully something will pop up :) Cheers, |
