Father’s day is just around the corner, so I thought it would be fun to feature some inspiration for celebrating with dad here at Celebrations, starting with this golf themed table that I created last year for my own dad, who would be on the course every day if he could! It was fun to get creative and try to think outside the box a little with this theme, and – even better – everything used in this tablescape is incredibly inexpensive!  Here are the details on how to recreate this look at home:

Tee Box & Green Centerpiece

You’ll need:
• 2 plastic shadowbox picture frames (1 each: 8x10 and 5x7)
• small flat of sod from your local nursery
• 1 tall wooden skewer
• colored cardstock and sticker numbers for the golf pin (flag)
• 2 sheets solid 12x12" scrapbook paper for “table runner”

Instructions:
Remove the back (cardboard) portion of the picture frames, flip them upside down, and fill them with pieces of sod, sized to fit in the frames.

Stick a tee and golf ball into the sod in the larger frame, and a golf pin (flag) into the sod of the smaller frame. To create the pin, cut a piece of card stock into the shape of a diamond, completely cover one side with glue stick, then fold the paper around the top of the wooden skewer, pressing the 2 sides together to secure with the glue. Add a number (1-19) to the flag with a marker or number stickers. A standard round of golf has 18 holes, but golfers will often say they are at the "19th hole" when enjoying a drink at the clubhouse after the round is over.

Optional:
Fill small decorative bowls with golf balls and set them on either side of the centerpiece to help fill the table.

Place Settings

You’ll need:
• 12x12" sheets of scrapbook paper (in the colors and pattern of your choice)
• round white plates
• utensils, napkins, construction paper, utensils, and cups in colors that match your theme
• golf tees and sticker numbers (for the place cards)

Directions:
Set the plates on top of the decorative 12” scrapbook sheets, which will serve as placemats.

Create mini “golf pin place cards” using the same method as the pin in the centerpiece, but swapping out golf tees (turned upside down) for the bamboo skewers.

Turn the napkins at a 45º angle so that they look like diamonds, and stand the place cards in the middle of the napkins. Add a small dab of glue (such as Elmers or glue stick) to the bottom of the tee to help it stay put.

If the special man in your life isn’t a golf lover, you can apply this same type of concept to whatever his interests and hobbies may be…sailing, construction, spots, race cars, etc. Check out scrapbook stores for fun papers and themed embellishments, and just have fun with it!
