Loving Letterpress

When it comes to stationery, there are few qualities more luxurious than letterpress printing on cotton rag paper. Between the thick, textured feel of the paper and the 3-dimensional look to the imprinted design, opening a letterpress note or invitation just instantly makes you feel like you’re holding something special!

One of my favorite letterpress design houses – Elum Designs – recently released several stylish new stationery products for 2008, and I’m excited to share some of them with you today! Elum’s greeting cards and everyday notes are perfect for giving hand written notes and congratulatory messages a stylish twist – and their notecard sets also make great gifts for fashion-forward hostesses.  Speaking of gifts, several of the new stationery designs are also available in flat gift wrap sheets, just in time for those graduation gifts!

Are you a letterpress stationery fan? What pieces from Elum’s new collection particularly strike your fancy?  I’m feeling partial to Monkey Around and Perch Birds myself!

A personal favorite is Felix Doolittle – this stationary is beyond superior (and the return address labels make great house-warming gift as well I might add). I use their products as gifts quite often. Their stationary can be personalized (obviously) but you can also have them do a rendering of your own home or office or dog or child or favorite flower (see Peony rendering below) and have the art put on every kind of paper you can think of. Even baker labels if you are crafty and clever. This work is gorgeous. And nothing says class and style better than stationary with your house rendered on.
Mrs. John L. Strong – what can I say? You either already know it, or you are going to wish you hadn’t been introduced. Superior quality, beautifully crafted, ready to write or hand tailored to match your literary needs. Expensive, but to those who need a brand name, this is where you go.
Their Pagoda calendar comes with a small gilded stand, packaged in a beautiful wooden box. Now, this is a bit impersonal if your mom is a cookie queen. If your mom quotes the Style section of the NYT like passages from the bible, then we are on to something.

I love Snow and Graham. I found some of their cards at a local store and was so taken that I began the search for additional designs. I found a beautiful selection of cards and stationary at the online site for Greer Chicago. They also carry items by Elum.

I love letterpress cards so much that I stock up whenever I get a chance. I discovered a wonderful store in Savannah, GA. It is called @ home Vintage General. If you love letterpress and beautiful cards, you have to visit this store.

I look for any occasion to send a nice card, it makes me happy and I like to think it brightens the day of my friends and family.
