Week Of Jewelry Staples: Must-Have Bracelets
Posted on Jan 28, 2009 12:34:22 PM  |  By MichelleMadhok

Instead of showcasing more conventional wrist adornments like charms and pearls for this post, I’m choosing bracelets that truly accessorize and add to an outfit. So while you may have a gorgeous tennis bracelet you never take off, look to these two types of bracelets if your ensemble could use a more unexpected boost.

Stackable Bangles
Wear one or two of these thin bracelets for an elegant, understated look, or pile them on for lots of color or shine. Old Navy’s enamel bangles (left, $8.50 for 3) are ideal if you’re starting a jewelry wardrobe – they’re inexpensive, go with everything, and come in eight colors. Buy two coordinating sets, and you can mix and match.

Bangle designer extraordinaire Amrita Singh also makes affordable styles, like these metal and crystal bangles (center, $20 for 7 at Amrita Singh) you can wear separately or stack up your arm. This wood and resin square bangle set (right, $29 for 4 at Banana Republic) has a more mod, colorful look, perfect with tailored suits and separates at work.

Chunky Cuffs
Unlike bangles, which often work better in multiples, cuffs are meant to be worn alone. Choose a statement-making style for evening, like this crystal-strewn cuff (left, $147 at Bluefly), or go with a less sparkly style, like this hammered link cuff (center, $4.80 at Forever 21) for day.

If you’re after a real jewelry-box workhorse, invest in a wide, shiny silver cuff with clean lines (right, $34.95 at HSN); it will look sleek and professional at work, and accent bare arms beautifully for evening.
