Mother's Day Style Doesn't Fall Far From the Tree
Posted on May 7, 2008 3:55:46 PM  |  By JuleeWilson

Mother's Day is a wonderful celebration of the strength, wisdom and the overall fabulousness of our mothers. Beyond their individual greatness, the wonderful (although sometimes trying) friendships we share are also something to uphold. When a mother and daughters' forces are combined there is no stopping us.

Here, two mother/daughter teams that have used their special bonds to form companies that exude style, innovation and, most importantly...friendship!

If you're at a loss for a last minute Mother's Day gift, look no further!

C.H.A.R.M

Founded in 2001, C.H.A.R.M is all about expressing your unique personality through jewelry. Leslie Slutsky (mother) and Lisa Slutsky Feldkamp (daughter) literally carry years of memories on their wrists through the charms that adorn their beloved bracelets. Together they decided that offering the same type of nostalgia to others would be their mission. The company  has over 300 14-karat gold charms that range in style from antique, modern, art-deco and everything in between. The duo also specializes in antique poker chip pieces. Now that's what I call a lucky charm!

BAGGU

Watch out plastic bags...Joan and Emily Sugihara are a force to be reckoned with!  This mother and daughter team have joined the environmental preservation fight by designing stylish, practical and oh-so-easy reusable bags that the two hope will replace all their landfill-destined plastic counterparts. Made of a durable rip-stop nylon, the Baggu bags hold up to 25lbs and fold into a 5 by 5 inch pouch so they tuck nicely into your pocket or purse with ease. These bags make the perfect gift for all the special people in your life...and the Earth will thank you for it.

What is the most memorable Mother's Day gift you have ever given or received? I will never forget the jewelry box I made my mother during my Home Economics class in middle school. She still uses it!

I love this bracelet idea but I clicked the link only to find the "where to buy" link on CHARM's site is empty. Any thoughts on how I can find out more?

When I was in elementary school, I wrote my mom a mother's day poem...and she still has it framed in her bedroom.

Yes! So glad you have reminded everyone of the importance of cloth bags - not only is it the right thing to do it looks so much better - any woman who loves herself or cares for future generations will reduce all of her plastic consumption (the creation of plastic creates carcinogenic dioxins, and studies show that close when in contact with plastic it releases toxins on and in to us too!)

Thanks for the great ideas.

Hi Sammy's Mom,
As of right now, CHARM is only selling their pieces online. I will definitely let you know (or post) any buying information if it happens to change. I hope you had a chance to look around the CHARM site and take advantage of the 20% discount offered up until this Sunday. The bracelets are beautiful and make such great heirlooms. Happy shopping!
