Help Skin Stay Young With SPF Makeup
Posted on Apr 21, 2008 5:00:00 AM  |  By MichelleMadhok

Nobody needs to be told again about the importance of sunscreen. And when I’m on vacation or by the beach, I never forget to slather it on, but it can slip my mind during my ho-hum morning routine – and when it’s bright and hot and humid out, the days when sun protection is most important, the last thing I want to put on my face is a greasy layer of sunscreen before doing my makeup.

Luckily, there are enough SPF-laced cosmetics out there to keep your whole face protected from the damaging rays we all encounter on the subway-to-office stroll. Below, sun-blocking products from four tried-and-true brands.

Let us know in the comments section: How do you sneak in your sun protection when the weather gets warm?

Face
Clinique Moisture Sheer Tints SPF 15 ($26 at Nordstrom) are light and oil-free, so they won’t melt off like the heavier formulas we wear during winter. The tinted moisturizer evens out skin, but the color is sheer enough to let your tan show through.

And if you're not quite tan yet, Sephora’s Bronze Powder ($15 at Sephora) lets you fake the sun-kissed look while keeping your skin from getting scorched.

Lips
Nothing works better to on my chapped lips than Kiehl’s lip balm, and the SPF 15 variety ($9.50 at Kiehl’s) comes in sheer red and berry tones. It’s perfect for soothing sun-exposed lips and protecting them from further damage.

All-Over Color
Perscriptives AnyWear Multi-Purpose Makeup Stick SPF 15 ($35 at Nordstrom) comes in 24 different colors, all neutral enough to wear on eyes, cheeks or anywhere else you need a shot of shimmer.

I use a lotion when I first get out of the shower every single morning that has SPF 15 in it - Oil of Olay moisturizing face lotion. My makeup in the summer is a thin layer of the "mineral" makeup that L'Oreal is making now, with an SPF 19. I don't think my face is getting burnt anytime soon!

In the winter...my Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer (spf 15) appears to be adequate sun protection, but in the summer I take it up a notch and use Dermalogica's Solar Defense Booster (spf 30). With this product, you can sneak broad spectrum sun protection into your favorite moisturizer or foundation.

Check out my website for an article solely on sun protection in the Cool Broad Beautiful Skin series.

I am only 26 years old, and I am learning the importance of skin care. I wear sunblock, I don't smoke, and I drink lots of water. Do you have any other tips to delay the aging process?

I would like to add that AVON has a new liquid foundation called personal match. It matches to your skin tone and is very light doesn't feel like you are wearing makeup at all and it has an SPF of 15 so it protects your skin. It is great give it a try. If you are interested in buy AVON contact me at www.youravon.com/dshaner. Thank you
