Once upon a time I went to graduate school to get my master's degree in English. It was not a particularly happy time in my life: my boyfriend (now husband) lived in another city and so when I wasn't pining for him I was with him on the weekend and dreading our Sunday afternoon parting. Like millions of Americans, I listened to both McCain’s and Obama’s speeches on Tuesday night with complete focus; not since Jim kissed Pam at the end of season two of The Office have I been so interested in a television event. What a night! There are many things to remember from Obama’s speech, but the detail that sticks in my head, of course, is the fact that Sasha and Malia now get a puppy. I have written on this blog before about how much I hate Halloween. Now, with one more Halloween under my belt, I can say with confidence that I still hate it as much as I always have, if not a bit more. (Why more?
