colored jeansCertain colors complement your complexion, while others miss the mark entirely. As someone with cool undertones, purple looks great on me, but yellow…let’s just say I’ll let my counterparts with warmer undertones have their pick of blouses on that rack.

The good news? There’s no need to build a wardrobe based on a few select colors. “Certain colors flatter all skin tones and hair colors because they provide an equal balance of warm and cool,” says Leatrice Eiseman, a color specialist.

Three of her picks—true red, blush pink, and teal—also happen to bring out the natural flush in a face. Her fourth pick, eggplant, is such a deep, versatile shade that it can take the place of a neutral in an outfit, making it a great wardrobe staple.
