May not only marks National Moving Month, but it also kicks off the busiest moving season of the year. If you’re planning a move, resist the urge to haphazardly stuff your belongings into boxes. To keep your possessions safe en route and make unpacking a bit easier, follow these guidelines, courtesy of FlatRate Moving.
To keep chaos at bay on your first night, identify the essentials–toiletries, a change of clothes, medications, and anything you’ll need immediately–and transport these items separately.
Once you’re ready to pack up the rest of the house, use quality boxes and real packing tape (masking tape isn’t strong enough). Anything that’s worth moving should be packed with care to prevent it from breaking. Load heavier items on the bottom and keep boxes in the 20-30 pound range. Even in a pinch, boxes shouldn’t exceed 50 pounds.
