How to Buy Clothes You’ll Actually Wear

April 28, 2014 | By | Comments (7)

gift-bags_300The absolute best shopping tip of all time? Be picky.

Yes, this one seems like a no-brainer.  But just about everyone is guilty of under-employing it. That dress that you were sure you’d find an occasion for? Those shoes that pinched just a little but they were on sale so you thought you could live with it? The pile of clothing slowly building up in your closet of pieces that just don’t seem to fit quite right, or go with anything else you own, or… Ah, you see.

The next time you’re in a fitting room trying on a potential new purchase, if you find yourself tugging at it, deliberating about the color, unsure of where you might wear it, slightly uncomfortable in any way, or if you can’t think of at least three outfit combinations using pieces you already own, save your closet and your wallet some strife – don’t buy it (even if it is on sale).

Great advice. I have a beautiful crocheted top hanging in my closet, now. Sleeves are too sheer for work, top is too fancy for casual, never go anywhere fancy enough for it. Had it too long to return.

So true! Make this the conversation you have with yourself in the fitting room.
