Homemade Magic Shell

Remember Magic Shell, the childhood chocolate treat of long ago (or yesterday, as the case may be) that was a gooey in the bottle, but then immediately froze into solid as soon as it hit your ice cream? It still exists—and in multiple flavors!—but if you’re trying to eat a more natural diet, there’s a homemade version of the treat that contains just two relatively healthy ingredients… and, more importantly, that has the same magical effect.

To make homemade Magic Shell, melt 1 tablespoon of coconut oil in a double boiler, or a medium heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water. Next, add 8 ounces of chopped semisweet chocolate and stir until melted and smooth. Cool slightly, and your treat will be ready to eat over ice cream. This recipe makes ½ cup.
