Despite definitely knowing better, you popped a pimple and it erupted. Rather than lecturing you on how bad it is to pick at your skin—because it is a bad idea—here’s how to cover it up: A combination of acne-fighting gel, concealer, and translucent loose powder.
First, go ahead and apply an acne-fighting gel (like Clinique Acne Solutions Emergency Gel-Lotion, $17, clinique.com) to the scene of the crime. According to Jeannette Graf, an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, in New York City, this will “help seal the opening to prevent bacteria from entering the skin and inflaming the lesion.”
Next, using your finger, pat an opaque concealer that matches your skin tone onto the site (we recommend Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer, $24, tarte.com). And finally, apply an oil-absorbing translucent loose powder on top to set the concealer and make the area matte (our favorite is Laura Mercier Loose Setting Translucent Powder, $35, lauramercier.com).
