Now, who has finally grown secure in her own skin only to have her pre-teen or teenage daughter begin to question things like why she doesn’t look as thin as so-and-so and why her thighs are so “blarby”? Okay, put your hands down (I’m lowering mine).
So, I’m not a child psychologist and don’t begin to say that I have the answers to such questions. I try to lead by (healthy) example, and serve (mostly) healthy foods in hopes that my daughter will feel empowered and, therefore, secure.
Meantime, I came across this beautiful celebration from Reader’s Digest of what naked bodies look like from the point of view of a massage therapist. I read it to my girl (and will subject my boy to as soon as he starts asking questions about his “blarb”). Hopefully, you’ll find it equally illuminating when and if such questions arise in your home.
